Description:
1977 Ford F-250 Ranger Highboy
One 1977 Ford F250 Ranger 4X4 (1977 was the last year of the Ford Highboys) AS IS, WHERE IS.(no ferry is required to get on Camano Island, unless you live on a island yourself)
Not quite a project (unless you're looking to restore). Spend a weekend working on it and it'd be ready to go romp in the woods. Spend another to toss a few parts at it and it could be decent (in a rat rod type of way).
Bring a Trailer (or be ready for an adventure home). AS IS, WHERE IS.
READ ALL BELOW and LOOK AT PICS (excuse the lens flare, these are the best of 3 attempts taking pics)
I've owned this since 2011 and have MAYBE put 500 miles on it. I haven't driven it more than a few feet in our driveway in over a year and a half. I mainly use it to go to the dump (~5 miles away). Wife won't ride in it (too high, too noisy).
It needs to go to someone that will enjoy/use it more.
An actual Highboy (serial number R021720, well before the Y020000 cut off):
Divorced Transfer Case NP205
NP435 transmission (new clutch with maybe 200 miles on it)
351M (the prior owner said 400, but the tag and flywheel lead me to believe he was mistaken. He did say he had had it rebuilt so maybe...but don't count on it)
Power Brakes (booster changed out since I bought it)
Power Assist Steering (wow, something to leak and only slightly help changing direction)
Dana 44 low pinion, Open knuckle Front axle
Dana 60 full floating Rear axle with LSD (I think it is a TracLok, what ever Ford would have put in, It could use some new clutches)
Issues: Well used. Mileage shown on odometer is 34522, it has been around at least once
Rust: Rear sides of bed (see pics)
Passenger Door (underside is rotted out)
Back side of passenger fender where it is tweaked (see pics)
Some on floor corners (not through but needs attention before it goes too far)
In general see pics, frame has surface rust (we don't have salted roads, just wet ones)
Dents: Hood, Pax Door & Fender (see pics)
Mainly light dings (its a truck and was used as one) (see pics)
Running condition: Since I rarely start/drive it, it is cold blooded and may stumble, stal, cough, etc
Current carb is unrebuilt from wrecking yard (I didn't bother rebuilding it; the carb clogging from sitting is the biggest problem I've had)
Driver's mirror broken (extra holes in doors from other mirrors)
Rearview mirror needs to be installed
Dash surrounds need to be installed (both in pics have cutouts for use with single din radio)
Expired tabs
Second tank is not hooked up and I don't have the switch or valve for it anymore.
Battery is not the greatest, it'll charge but may not hold it
Exhaust system should be replaced (rust, plus I had to cut a section to remove when I did the clutch that didn't get welded back into place correctly: leaks)
There are more little issues I can't think of offhand
Okay, one I just remembered is the steering column bearing needs to be changed
And another, the taillights work intermittently (bulb sockets don't make good contact)
The good: New u-joints on the driveshafts (solids on main shafts, lube type on intermediate shaft; axles not done)
New clutch (as noted above, guess I how determined it probably wasn't a 400?)
New In cab tank filler pipe seal, hose, & sender
Offbrand electric pump to help the new mechanical pump
Seat is from a newer rig and in good shape (blue cloth) under the seat cover
I do have the driver's side bed trim (and maybe the tailgate insert, but no promises I do)
Barely used tires 235/85R16s (I prefer using piecutters over wide tires)
See Pics
AS IS, WHERE IS.
Would I drive this more than 5 miles without spending a day tuning, testing, & fixing? NO!!!
Would I expect it to stall, sputter, & stop at least once in those 5 miles? Yes
Should you bring a trailer when you pick it up? YES!!!
Is it a diamond in the rough? Yes. If I had the desire to keep it, I'd swap to a different engine (either go to an a 5.8 EFI or diesel). The carb on this engine is the one thing that always causes me grief.
The painted parts aren't new, I prefer to clean and repaint when I remove parts so I can see if where the leaks are. I did do the seals on the trans & transfer case when I did the clutch, but from sitting, they didn't hold up.
Again: See pics
It is a used truck, a cool type of truck, but still a used, old school beast of a truck.
AS IS, WHERE IS
And if you read this far looking for the reserve price, what fun would it be if I stated it. Hint it isn't crazy, it has 4 digits, and kind of hidden in this add.
