SLICK BUILD THAT MEANS BUSINESS! STEEL BODY, DOWNS CHASSIS, BLOWN 350 V8, COOL!
1932 Ford 5-Window Coupe
Webster's Dictionary defines the term hot rod as "an automobile built or modified for high speed and fast acceleration". This 1932 Ford 5 window coupe is all that and more, bringing along with it a heaping dose of maximum visual impact to accompany its exceptional power. It's the automotive equivalent of Everclear: served straight, with no chaser.
That bright yellow paint job makes a strong first impression, all right, but take a closer look and you'll appreciate its quality, too. It's show quality from all angles and the nice clearcoat on top, adds a deep, wet-looking shine. It's a great looking vintage coupe, also sporting a black vinyl roof insert, black front grille and black bumper to provide contrast to the brightness of its hue. This impressive looking visual display sits on a well-built steel body - nothing but uniformly curved panels with nice, even gaps between them. With a clearly aggressive, inclined stance, it not only clears a path for a pair of massive rear tires, but it also gives the impression that it's ready to pounce in the process. And it is. Look at it from the front and it glares back at you like a boxer staring down his opponent before begrudgingly touching gloves. From all angles, it radiates sheer badness.
This '32 features a well-detailed interior from which to wage war on the asphalt. The bench seat, well-padded and covered in black vinyl, is sure to provide plenty of comfort while behind the wheel. Just as you'd want in a car like this, with its emphasis on performance, you'll find an array of gauges on the dash to monitor all the functions you'll need to stay on top of . . . and then some. While the Sport-Comp speedometer, tach, oil pressure, temperature and voltage gauges are all in easy viewing range, nicely organized for easy viewing on a background of shiny black steel, the additional gauge for "boost" at the far right tips you off that it's no ordinary powerplant sitting in front of you. The Hurst Quarter Stick shifter, with its exceptional sensitivity, not only has the functionality you want, but also just the look to complement the tilt-wheel steering column and instrument bezels. An AM/FM/CD player with Ipod compatibility sits at the ready below the gauges to provide the soundtrack for your motoring exploits.
Few would argue that performance is the front-burner emphasis on a hot rod like this. The builder of this car certainly agreed, packing the build list with a bevy of top of the line parts in order to unleash that performance. The supercharged Chevy 350 has been bored .040 over and with its four-bolt main, promises plenty of action ahead. It features a pair of 4-barrel carbs up top and a pair of Edelbrock Performer RPM heads on its sides. A pair of Sanderson headers lead back to the Flowmaster 3" ceramic coated exhaust, so no worries about back-pressure on this ride. Add to the mix a TH400 3 speed transmission, with a TCI 3500 stall converter, then factor in the 9" Ford rear end with a 3.89 ratio and you have just the recipe for smoking the massive 275 Mickey Thompson slicks in the back. The polished aluminum radiator not only provides the right look for a racer like this, but also keeps things exceptionally cool. We know that with cars, as with houses, everything is only as good as its foundation and the foundation on this '32 is exceptional - coming in the form of a Downs chassis which is more than up to the task of withstanding all this power and featuring a 4-bar suspension up front and coilovers in back.
