I purchased this cobra from a gentleman who owned it since 1990. He would fire the car up several times a year and allow it to get to operating temperature, but really never drove the car any distance but around his property. So basically the car sat in nice storage for nearly 30 years. The history before 1990 is unknown. Before selling the car to me the owner put new tires on it, replaced the rear hatch shocks, and had the oil changed and other fluids checked and topped off.
The odometer shows 89,xxx miles. The engine was suppose to have been rebuilt prior to 1990 and has had very few miles put on it since. The car runs great, I've put a couple of hundred miles on it and see nothing wrong with it mechanically besides a bit of a vibration around 55 mph. When the previous owner had the new tires put on, the shop thought a couple of the factory rims could be a bit bent causing the small vibration.
The paint is in descent condition. It appears to be combination of factory, and a partial respray. The paint/graphics have plenty of small flaws, and there are signs of some body filler on the passenger side as there are a couple 1 - 3" cracks. Judging by how clean the car is underneath, I would doubt the car was ever rusty. There is a small amount of bubbles behind the driver's side wheel well, which is a very common area for these cars to rust. There is also a 50 cent sized bubble under the cobra graphics on the passenger side.
I've had the t-tops out to enjoy the sunlight, but I have not had them in the rain, I would imagine they would leak like they all did.
I am only selling the 78 as a 76 fell in my lap very shortly after finding the 78, and I do not have room for both....be sad to see it go as it's a great car.
I have the cobra for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction if it sells.
