Description:
1955 Ford Other OTHER
1955 FORD COE TRUCKThis is a clean old project truck with a real solid body and very little rust. There are a lot of creative ways people have restored these trucks. They put flatbeds on them, ramp bodies, rollbacks, campers, tow units, crew cab conversions, pickup boxes, etc. etc. Regular 8-9' stepside boxes from the era look great on these. I can help you find a box but they are not too difficult to find. Reproduction box parts and fenders are sold also. I've seen custom crew cabs built out of these trucks, and suburbans/panels too. I have a dropbox link with many more pics of this truck I can send. Only 24 fit on here.
MECHANICAL
The truck has a y-block V8, probably a 292 but I'm not sure. The motor does not turn over with the starter. The previous owner said it was rebuilt, and then thought that it was overheated and stuck. That's what the original owner told him. I'm not sure. The truck has a 4-speed manual, and also has a 4-speed brownie auxillary transmission. These are popular for truck restorations, and get $1500 regularly in this condition. If your planning on using a different chassis, you can sell the brownie to get a good chunk of the sale price back. The truck rolls, steers, and the transmission/clutch work to hold it while parked and loaded. The parking brake works also. Tires of course are not good but hold air.
BODY
The body on the truck is nice for an old COE truck. It has very little rust, which I will detail, and is really straight for an un-restored truck this old. Each rear cab corner has very minor rust down low in the corner. Both doors have rust in the bottom skin also. These replacement panels are sold and these areas are an easy fix. The drivers floorboard has a little rust-through. Pretty minor, and it's solid for a rat truck and would not need repaired. I'm sure repair pieces are made for this also and are low priced and also easy to do. That is the only rust on the truck. The windshield is nice and does not have chips or cracks. Doors and hood operate as the should. Very cool vintage spotlight that rotates and turns as it should. It most likely works but the bulb is burnt out. The keys are included for the ignition and I think the door key is on there too but I haven't tried it. windows roll up/down.
INTERIOR
The interior in this is dryer and cleaner than most of these old trucks I've seen. Many times, it looks like a variety of animals have lived in, or still live in them. This truck is dry and somewhat clean and doesn't stink. This year truck has more room in the cab than a 1952 or older ford COE. It has a full bench and I fit in it comfortably and I'm 6'5".
Overall a really cool 62 year old truck and a good one to restore. A lot of these old farm trucks were taken care of well and kept in barns when not in use. Thanks, and happy bidding. Sold as-is
