A Deluxe Marti Report is included as well as a reproduction window sticker, which details the factory options of the car.I have owned this car for approximately 5 years and bought it because I always wanted a 1970 Mach 1 and because of its striking color combination. The fact that the car had a factory 4 speed and Shaker Scoop only made it more compelling. Below is a detailed description of the car, and feel free to reach out if I can answer any other questions.I am selling this 1970 Mach 1 as well as a Triple Black 1968 Pontiac Firebird Convertible 400, 4 spee, so check out my other listing. Reason for selling: As most car collectors will attest to, this is always a difficult choice, but career and life changes dictate the sale of the cars.
In anticipation of questions on whether the cars were flooded/took water during the recent Hurricane Harvey...The cars did not get a single drop of rain and stayed dried as a bone in our garage. I have 4 collector cars that are stored in our garage and we experienced no issues in our neighborhood/house with rising water. Inspections are welcome.DriveTrain: Not "born with" engine and components (heads, intake, carburetor, distributor, transmission, rear end, etc). The current engine is a complete 1971 351 Cleveland with 4 V heads. Block casting # is D0AE-L,with a casting date of 1A18, which decodes to January 18, 1971. The engine runs well and pulls hard, especially above 3000 RPM's.4V cylinder heads, with the # 4 cast on the corner. This are highly desirable for their high RPM ability. Holley 4 BBL carburetor withelectric choke and upgraded to Pertronix ignition. 9" Ford rear end with 3.50:1 rear axle and traction lok differential per previous owner documentation. Transmission is a 4 speed, close ratio top loader with a Hurst T-Handle shifter.
Body: The body of the car is solid with no rust. The car retains its original quarter panels, doors, fenders, and has rust free floor boards and frame rails. This is a key attribute of the car.Paint: The car is finished in its original Grabber Blue. I would categorize the quality of the paint as a "high quality driver". There are some imperfections (bubbling) in the paint, some scratches that have been touched up and some cracking (Please see pictures). However, the car shows extremely well.Interior: Finished in its original White Mach 1 Deluxe Interior and showsextremelywell. Dashpad shows like new, carpet as well, seats are in great condition as well as door panels. Fold down rear seat from the factory, a preferred and limited option (19% of fastbacks in 1970 had fold down rear seats). Interesting that the Marti report does not include it as an option but the reproduction window sticker does.Radio: AM Ford original radio with center speak in the dash.Cluster/Instrumentation: All components work: Fuel, temperature gauges, fog lights, headlights, wipers, etc The horn on the original Rim Blow Steering wheel does not work. Working Tilt Column steering wheel, which is a desirable and limited feature. Tachometer, a limited option, works well.Power Steering: Just spendapproximately $ 1,000 to replace all power steering components with high quality Scott Drake parts: Hoses, Power Steering Control Valve, Idler Arm, Power Steering Ram Cylinder. Power Steering works and steers like new.Shaker and Ram Air Intake: Very desirable factory feature and operates well.Brakes: Original front disc power brakes with rear drums. Stops well with no wandering.Exhaust: Dual exhaust with manifolds and correct exhaust tips. Nice Muscle Car rumble (see video).Wheels and Tires: Magnum 500 15" wheels with BF Goodrich Tires in excellent condition. Thetires are staggered with the front size being P235/60R15 and the rears at P245/60R15.
Options: Per Kevin Marti's book "Mustang...by the Numbers", I wanted to highlight several "rare"/limited options on the car. There were 191,522 Mustangs manufactured in 1970. Tachometer: only 14,151 Mustangs had a tachfrom the factory or 7.4% of Mustang produced in 1970. Tilt Column: only 5,223 Mustangs had a tilt column from the factory in 1970 or 2.7% of Mustangs produced in 1970. Shaker: Only 15,275 Mustangs had a shaker from the factory or 8% of Mustangsproduced in 1970. Convenience Group: Only 18,619 had this feature in 1970 or 9.7% of Mustangs produced in 1970. According to my research, the Convenience Group includes: trunk light, glove box light, headlamp on warning buzzer, left hand remote control mirror, automatic seat back latch, and parking brake warning light.
Driving Impressions: The car is a joy to drive and has plenty of power. The car steers straight and shifts well through the gears. Temperature gauge typically runs 3/4 of the way once it is warmed up but have not had issues with overheating or hot starting.
Best of luck bidding and feel free to contact me if you have any questions. I have a perfect 100% Ebay rating because I go to great lengths to accurately and honestly describe the items I sell. If you need additional information, please feel free to reach out.
