Rat Rod - Brand New, Made From Model T and Model A Parts
1923 Ford Model T Bucket
Just completed this car, made it with mostly early Ford, Model T and Model A parts- most being new replica parts. It was designed to be a rat rod, but I couldn't bring myself to make it looks distressed. Instead I keep the frame and body colors dark, and rather than hiding the wiring in the frame, or tucking the brake lines out of the way and such, I just left them in view. Which is good for anyone in the future that wants to work on the car. It's meant to look like the hot rods kids in the 40's and 50's made by piecing together miss-matched parts from Model T's, Model A's and other early Ford parts.
Most everything is brand new. The only previously used items on the car are the Corvair steering box, the early Ford front wheel spindles, the race built B&M Turbo-hydromatic 350 transmission and the Currie rebuilt Ford 9 inch rear end with a 389 posi 3rd member. Everything else is brand new, including the GM high performance 350ci engine, which was designed after the first Chevy small block engine, the 1955 265ci.
The car has only 15 miles on it, and the new owner will need to follow normal break in procedures like changing the old after the first 500 miles and others. Starts and runs as it should (it's new!), but this is not the type of car you go for a family trip on the highway in. I have muffler inserts in the Lake pipes, but it is still a little loud (the lake pipes are ceramic coated). Brakes are modern 4 wheel disk, the radiator is brand new, as are the gauges in the dash, the brake master cylinder and just about everything else.
The car has been inspected by the Arizona Department of Transportation and is titled and registered. Although this car most resembles a 1923 T bucket, Arizona has classified cars like this as "Special Construction", the state lists it as of the year it was completed, which for this car was December of 2016. As it is registered and insured as a Collectible car, it is exempt from emission testing in AZ. I have a book of receipts for all parts and a photo album of the various stages of construction, from empty garage through completed car. This was a nostalgic car build for me, as I built one like it when I was very much younger. Now I'm well into my 60's, am satisfied with my work/accomplishment, and ready to let it go.
