MotoeXotica is offering this celebrity-owned 1949 Ford Tudor Sedan. It is a survivor vehicle and will make a nice weekend driver or a collectible piece of music-related memorabilia. This coupe was owned and maintained by lead vocalist for the punk band Green Day, Billie Joe Armstrong, and comes with a Letter of Authenticity signed by Michael Manning, production/fleet manager for Green Day. If that wasn't enough, there is also a signed guitar by Billie Joe himself!
This Ford sedan, painted a custom dark blue metallic, has the 289 V-8, and is mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. This car was driven regularly by Billie Joe Armstrong and even appeared in a music video. The pint is not perfect and as you can see in the photos, the gas filler door has been removed and patched over with steel. A fuel cell sets in the trunk and the windshield wipers are inoperable. The engine also sports dual exhausts, which add a nice Flathead rumble. Ford hubcaps shine brightly from within their American Classic whitewall radial tires. The front bumper shows some pitting and pinpoint rust. Out back, two faceted mock sapphires replaced the original taillight reflectors. The glass is clear all around, including the front and rear vent windows.
Underneath, some major work has been done. The car has a correct, new frame; it has correct, new pans; the front brakes have been converted to discs with power assist; there is a new master cylinder assembly with proportion valve; a Hellwig front sway bar kit has been installed; and a new, tubular A-arm front suspension. The underneath of this car looks brand new.
Inside, a leopard-print carpet greets the driver as he slides onto the large, comfortable front bench seat. Each door has a 6×9 stereo speaker mounted in it, connected to a JVC AM/FM stereo with CD player and a removable faceplate. An 8,000 rpm tachometer is mounted in the dash where the original clock resided and looks great. A full complement of auxiliary gauges are mounted under the dashboard, replacing the original gauges, which ring the centrally-located speedometer. The original steering wheel is in good shape but the center cap is worn.
The 1949 Ford was the first all-new automobile design introduced by Detroit's Big Three after World War II, when civilian production had been suspended. After the war ended, the 1946-1948 models from Ford, GM and Chrysler were merely updates of their pre-war models. Popularly called the "Shoebox Ford" for its slab-sided, "pontoon" design, the 1949 Ford is credited both with saving Ford and ushering in modern, streamlined car design with changes such as integrated fenders.
Save for its drive train, this was an all-new car in 1949, with a modern ladder frame supporting a coil spring suspension in front and longitudinal semi-elliptical springs in back. The engine was moved forward to make more room in the passenger compartment and the former "torque tube" was replaced by a modern drive shaft, leading to the differential and rear wheels.
Some competing examples for the Ford Two-door Sedan in the late 1940s included the Chevrolet Styleline Two-door Sedan and the Plymouth Special Two-door Sedan.
This is literally a once-in-a lifetime opportunity to acquire one of the best examples of a celebrity-owned Ford Club Coupe and a genuine signed piece of music memorabilia from one the greatest lead singers of modern times! GET OUT AND DRIVE!!!
Other vehicles associated with Green Day that we have available include a 1976 Honda CB750 café racer owned by bassist Mike Dirnt and a 1974 Honda CB400 Super Sport motorcycle owned by lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong.
Current mileage on the odometer shows 77,238 miles, sold as is with a mileage exempt California title in Billie Joe Armstrong's name.
