Description:
1992 Ford F-350 XLT
For sale is my 1992 F350 crew cab long bed (CCLB) with the single rear wheel set up (SRW). This is a pre-3/92 truck with the 7.3 diesel IDI engine with V belts. This is a factory XLT trim truck with A/C (no belt on compressor at present) Dual Tanks (with working Fuel Selector Valve) and original tape deck. The truck has a very clean frame and a straight body with only a few (for an original OBS..) dings and dents. Truck has a Jason fiberglass camper shell on the bed. I've daily driven this truck since I got it two years ago, and have used it to travel with my family to New Orleans and back, Knoxville and back Asheville, and several trips up to Blue Ridge. Very reliable truck. I set out to create a "Grid-Down" rescue and escape vehicle for my family. The 7.3 IDI is an easy to fix, strong engine capable of turning very high milagewith simple routinemaintenance. Theonly thing keeping this truck from being EMP proof is the rudimentary electric controls for the E40D trans. I was planning a 5speed swap but a spare TPS in afoil bag stowed in a safe spot would be a good idea. This truck is capable ofrunning all sorts of alternative fuels when the diesel pumps run dry.Different bumpers were installed on the truck before I bought it. They are big, and will stop anything from hitting you. The bumpers also have tow hitch receivers in both the front and back but only power in the back. The Truck is lifted 2" and has Rancho RS5000 shocks.
The truck currently is running Maxxis Bighorn 315/75R16 mud terrain tires. Fronts are less than a year old and the rears are maybe 5 months older. Very little wear on $1200 worth of tires. I've done a bunch of work to the engine since I bought it including:
New Injectors (from the top rebuilder on oilburners.net...very reputable)
New ZD-9 Glow Plugs
New return lines and caps (upgraded to Viton rated for Bio-Diesel and WVO and Viton O-rings)
New CDR valve and gasket
Injection pump was replaced right before I bought it, fuel screw turned up a flat.
New front brakes
New Vacuum Pump (will be installed shortly)
New Thermostat
New Upper Rad Hose (New Lower rad hose comes with truck..old one was ok so I kept it for now..)
New Valve Cover gaskets (only oil leak on the truck is from the vcg's, I have them and will put them on soon.)
New V-Belts (Napa Gold....no A/C belt at the moment...)
New Pyrometer (Need to install)
New Hood to Cowl seal
Air, Fuel and Oil filter
Fuel Heater Delete mod..
Truck comes with....
Older tool box for bed
New In Box spare Mechanical Fuel Pump
2) 315/75R16 Maxxis bighorn spare tires (1 mounted on a steel rim, 1 unmounted.)
Hi-Lift Fire/Rescue services heavy duty 65" jack ($250)
CB radio (not installed but comes with truck..)
Oil changed 500 miles ago (Delo 400 15w40)
Fleetguard Diesel Coolant with SCA's (crucial to prevent Cavitation in the 7.3)
Fresh Trans fluid change 500 miles ago with new trans filter.
Four front mounted fog/off-road lights (not currently wired up..easy fix but I just don't use them)
The bad....
Interior is the worst part of the truck. Seats are covered in a worn camo print and the dash is pretty beat up.
Door skins are pretty beat,
Drivers door motor and regulator died, and the original glass broke so I replaced it with a crank one and left the door skin off. The new window is tight and has pitting in the glass. I have a clean replacement along with the vent window to go with the truck.Truck has typical fuel tank pickup broken off. Can't use last 1/4 of tank or it'll suck air. Cheap fix to use a piece of fuel hose (hose included) with a notch cut at the bottom. Never had the extra hands to drop the tanks and do the job. I just keep the tanks full.
Truck has Husky rubber floor mats in front and back.
Truck came to me with no coolant reserve tank. I bought one used and it cracked with in a day of putting it in. I fixed the crack with POR 15 epoxy putty after calling POR and double checking that it was safe for use with engine coolant and would not interact with the putty. So far so good.
The tape deck is slowly dying....and it no longer gets am or fm.
I love this old truck and Do Not Need to sell it, but I use a quarter of what it can do, and do not drive it enough anymore and I don't want it to sit and rot. This truck starts every time no matter how cold. The only repairs it needs right now are the vacuum pump and valve cover gaskets..both of which I have and just have to find time to install. If the new owner would rather do the valve covers themselves that's fine, but i'll be replacing the vac pump soon because it's a safety issue with the brakes.
