1984 Ford F-250 2 Door Pickup

Up for auction here is a 1984 Ford ¾-ton 4-wheel drive truck with a stock 6.9 diesel engine and a 4-speed manual transmission. This truck has kind of a unique story behind it.

I bought it a few years ago from an older gentleman who, from what I was told, bought it in the early '90's. He then proceeded to put tons of money into it. (He provided me with over $7,000 worth of receipts in parts and labor!) From looking at the receipts, it appears this work was all done in the mid '90's. The truck, which had a camper and a flat bed instead of the stock bed, on it at the time, was taken on a few camping trips and then parked. I talked with the truck owner's son, and he said that after he quit going on trips in the mid '90's, he didn't think his dad ever drove it any farther than to the local grocery store or post office. He also said he didn't think his dad put any more than 10,000 miles on the truck since he bought it.

After I bought the truck, I removed the camper and flatbed. I planned on putting a longer, wider flatbed on it, but now my plans have changed, and I just need to find a good home for it. Now that you know something about its history, I'll tell you something about the truck itself:

I have only put about 2,000 miles on the truck since I have owned it. Below is a partial list of new and repaired parts that were put into this truck that have 12,000 miles or less on them. I have all of the receipts for these parts and labor, plus a lot more.

• Transmission & Clutch: New ring gear, clutch plate, pressure plate, release bearing. (I noticed that the steering wheel has cruise controls on it and there are some cruise control components under the hood, so I think the truck could originally have had an automatic that was replaced with a 4-speed manual transmission, although I heard that some manuals may have had cruise control too, but I am not sure about that.)

• Brakes & Wheels: New shoes, pinion seals, wheel cylinders, axle seals, carrier bearings, races, etc.

• Misc: New fuel hoses, bulbs, wipers switch, pinion seals, power steering pump, heater hose, u-joints, front drive shaft repair, right rear grease seal, glow plugs, starter, etc., etc. (There are lots of other parts that have been replaced or repaired, but you get the idea. As I mentioned, I do have the receipts for all of the work done.)

It also has really nice Warn manual hubs on it, and a manual glow plug switch to extend the life of the glow plugs. (You only push the switch to turn the glow plugs on when you need them. They don't come on all of the time like they would in a stock system.) The truck also has the optional dual fuel tanks, tilt steering, brake controller for trailer towing, instrument gauges instead of idiot lights, and air conditioning, (I am not sure if the air conditioning works or not since the belt was not hooked up to it, and I never bothered to hook it up) and the seat is in amazing condition for its age with no holes, soft spots, or flaws anyplace that I can see. It matches the color of the truck so I think it must be stock. No doubt they had a seat cover on it most of its life. The truck has a few other options too.

Unfortunately, the previous owner parked it in a canyon where it sat for years, and it was only driven occasionally, so now it needs a lot of work. As you can see in the photos, the floorboards are rusted out in places, the windshield is cracked from a limb recently falling from a tree, the brakes work well but have a leak somewhere so you need to add fluid regularly, there is a small exhaust leak up near the engine, and there is a leak around the windshield on the driver's side corner. Also, the transfer case works great except, for some reason, it makes an occasional clunking noise when pulling heavy loads up a hill. You can feel it make a small jerk when it does this.

The transmission, front end, rear end, and 4x4 work great and don't make any noises. It says "70" on the differential housing, so I think it has an extra heavy-duty Dana 70 rear end, but I'm not certain. The truck was running strong and smoke-free down the highway, and it had a lot more power than the 6.5 Chevy diesel I was driving. Suddenly it started smoking a little, then it smoked more and more and started cutting out while going down the road, so I finally parked it and asked some guys who know these older 6.9 diesel Fords what they thought was wrong. They told me it was probably a fuel problem and that the fuel lines, seals, etc., are old and probably need to be replaced. I was also told the fuel pump could be going. With this in mind, I put a brand new fuel pump on the truck.

The fuel pump works great and fuel is going through the fuel line and to the engine just fine. However, it smokes pretty bad and won't run past a high idle most of the time now. At least now I know it isn't the fuel pump. I think the injection pump must have decided to die or maybe there is air getting in the pump somehow, I don't know. It could be an easy fix, but I am very busy with work and just don't have the time to fix it right now and need the space in my yard. It will start up and run well enough to drive it on and off of a trailer, but I would not drive it anyplace until you get it running right, and also get the brakes fixed.

Well, I guess that's about it. It has had a lot of work done to it, with a lot of newer parts, but now it needs a lot of work again from just sitting. You can fix it up though and it would make a great truck. It comes with a clear title in my name. I will need a $150 deposit received within 24 hours of the close of the auction, and the balance received within 7 days of the close of the auction. I can help the buyer or the buyer's shipper load it up onto a trailer, but it must be picked up within three weeks. Thanks for viewing this auction.
