1992 Ford Ranger Custom
Used 1992 Ford Ranger with 200,758 miles as of this posting. As with any truck or vehicle that's 25 years of age or older and that many miles, it has both its highlights and some issues, most of which are minor in nature. I believe in full disclosure so you know what you're buying, and all the issues, minor or otherwise, that I have found during my ownership of the vehicle.First the Issues:
- This vehicle's biggest issue is spots of rust, mostly in the usual places, which includes the bottom of the doors, a couple spots in the middle of the doors (which I've "hidden" with a stripe), the rear wheel wells (hidden by fender flares), and other areas. I have detailed pictures should you consider yourself a serious buyer.
- It also has a water leak into the cab due to bad window seals. This could be probably easily cured, but I just didn't want to sink anymore money into a truck that largely sits in the side yard and just looks good.
- There is also a bracket missing on the front drivers seat, because the mount had rusted through. The seat is still held in by 3 other bolts, but it does have a minor wobble. A small weld of a piece of metal to bolt to would solve this issue.
- The driver's seat belt is worn but still functional. At some point the driver's belt may need to be replaced, but it is still very much intact but the fraying has begun on the lap portion of the belt.
- The A/C works but it isn't the coldest. It's going to do an okay job, but the compressor is the original and it isn't doing the greatest anymore.
- The only blemish it has, besides rust, is a dent on the top-left corner of the tailgate.
- The tailgate opens but sometimes sticks. I have adjusted it several times to try the right combination of locking shut vs. stuck shut. I think I've dialed it in.
- The emergency brake isn't 100%. If you face the truck downhill, it holds perfectly. If you face the truck uphill, you better have a chuck under the wheel and keep it in gear just to be safe.
- The headliner inside the cab has some minor tears and signs of dirt. I tried to steam clean it to no avail.
Now the Good Stuff:
- The engine runs great, especially when warm. In this small truck, the 3.0L V6 pulls it along at quite a clip. It started yesterday after not running since November, and on the first key turn. Sometimes it needs to warm up, but other times it starts like a champ, especially in warm weather.
- It has new brake lines from the brake master cylinder all the way back to each rear drum. I had a line rupture a couple of years ago and decided it was time to replace the entire set of rear lines to ensure safety.
- It has a full set of new wheels and tires. I replaced the wheels with the same size and specification as it received 25 years ago: the Outlaw II wheels, which have an attractive studded look. On them are BF Goodrich tires (also new) with raised white lettering. The wheels and tires have less than 1,000 miles on them.
- Above the wheels are four black plastic wheel fairings; 4 inches in width. When I purchased the truck, there was a lot of rust out in the typical spots in the panel above the wheel. I removed the rusted portion, sealed it with primer and paint, and covered the jagged, worn area with these attractive fairings that not only add beauty, but a little more structural integrity as well. While the front wheel wells were without rust, to match and give this truck some much needed boldness and symmetry, I added front ones too.
- Supporting the frame are four new shocks/struts. The rear shocks are heavy duty and allows you to load a lot more in the bed. Take home twice the mulch without bottoming out the suspension.
- It now has caught up with a state-of-the-art sound system. A Kenwood head unit controls a 50x4 RMS and 100x1 RMS 5-channel Rockford-Fosgate amplifier, sending power to four 100-watt Kicker coaxial speakers and one Rockford Fosgate truck subwoofer. This system sounds amazing, and is Bluetooth enabled for wireless audio streaming and telephone calls. There is no CD player or other disc; it is 100% digital media only. A convenient microphone helps you make and receive calls right in the truck.
- A new vinyl floor replaces the old, worn out carpet. Boom mat (for sound deadening) lines the floor and inside of the doors for a quieter ride.
- The seats, dash, and other components are in good condition and the overall appearance of the interior, which the exception of the aforementioned headliner, look great.
- The transmission shifts flawlessly and has a great feel. Acceleration is brisk and as aggressive as you want it to be.
- A new front grill returns the fresh, clean finish of the vehicle, replacing the cracked, broken (and open) grill that once was on it.
- I meticulously restored the paint to its current condition. I often find cars that have been relegated to the weather and the oxidation is the only thing standing in the way between dull and a look that the vehicle once enjoyed.
- A diamond-plate truck box complete with keys. It's not the best or most rugged, but it will hold your stuff and keep it from sliding all over the bed.
- Oil changes, brake jobs, and other maintenance items have been timely to ensure a well-maintained vehicle overall.
SHIPPING ALERT: I will NOT ship this vehicle. This is for pickup only in the Cincinnati and surrounding area. You are responsible for vehicle pickup.
PAYMENT: Deposit is $250 (payable by PayPal). Balance payable by Cashier's Check in person during title transfer procedure at a local bank or other notary public.
RESERVE PRICE: While some may be discouraged by the presence of a reserve price, I need to ensure that at least a portion of my investment is not lost in this vehicle. I'm not asking for sentimental value here, but true investment price. These vehicles are highly sought after and the market is decent for small trucks, especially with bigger beds like this one. The new wheels/tires and sound system alone totals $1,600. Please take this into consideration when bidding.
