7 Up Edition 1990 Ford Mustang
1990 Ford Mustang
This Mustang has been in the family since its purchase in 1990. It has always been garaged and has no rust. Since about 1998 the car has been driven sparingly, averaging less than 500 miles per year it has come to a point that I am willing to part with this collectible model.
The history on this model is the 7 Up company was planning a promotion for the 1990 NCAA Basketball tournament and commissioned the build of 30 limited edition Mustang convertibles. 7 Up subsequently backed out of the promotion and the Ford Motor company decided to produce 5,000 cars and offer them as a special edition. However only 4,103 cars were produced and Ford rebranded the cars and offered them as a special edition and an unofficial commemoration of the Mustang's 25th anniversary. Of the cars produced 1,360 came with a five-speed manual transmission and 2,743 had automatic overdrive transmissions.
The limited-edition Mustangs, known as 7 Up cars, are LX convertibles equipped with the Fox body era 5.0L V8 engine and deliver around 255 horsepower. All cars were painted Deep Emerald Green metallic paint and featured a white leather interior and a white convertible top. The front fascia, outside mirrors and body side moldings were painted to match the green exterior. Every 7 Up edition Mustang also got the GT's 15-inch aluminum rims and a special-value package consisting of cruise control, A/C and a premium sound system with AM/FM radio and a cassette player.
This car is very clean, unmodified and has been well maintained. Its mileage is indicative of moderate driving. The car was not a daily driver, even when it was new. The door flanks are free of door dings, a straight body, the headlights are bright and clear and all the emblems are still in place. As a 27-year-old car it does have a couple of blemishes. Oneis on the driver's side fascia (bumper) and the other is located on the front, left portion of the hood next to the headlamp. See photos. The carpets, upholstery, door panels, dash board and the convertible top are sound and in great condition. The convertible top stows under a matching white vinyl boot. A black boot is also included and the reasonably-sized trunk looks almost new.
The 5.0 L engine is stock and there are no signs of smoking or unusual noises. The engine bay, nicely maintained, still wears almostall its original equipment. The radiator was recently replaced with an updated aluminum style. The water pump, hoses, and thermostat were also replaced and recently received a California smog certificate. The engine produces a nice distinctive roar that can be heard through the dual exhaust system.
This special edition LX has Michelin P225/60 R15 tires mounted on factory GT-spec 15-inch turbine style wheels.
While the emerald green paint is a most distinctive feature, the combination of parts and features that make up these cars are what really stand out. One can foresee a time when these cars, like some of the other special edition Mustangs Ford has created, will become a highly-prized vehicle.
This car is being sold AS-IS and there is no warranty given or implied. Although the mileage listed is accurate, the mileage may be subject to change a few miles. Also the buyer assumes all costs associated with shipping the car.
