Description:

1968 Ford Mustang

Listing my 1968 Mustang Project. I have spent well over $10,000 in parts and labor but I have not been able to advance the project past this stage. Most of the hard to find parts are included but their will be a large number of "finishing" parts needed to complete the build. Basically what I am selling a is good shell with most of the metal work done. There is NO RUST on this car. It comes with a Bill-of-Sale and I do have the original VIN Plate. (the rusty metal it was riveted to was replaced)
Here is a list of the work that has been done and parts replaced:
  • Front Frame Rails cut out and replaced
  • Rear Frame Rails cut out and replaced
  • Rear Torque boxes cut out and replaced
  • Cowl Vents cut out and replaced
  • Firewall cut out and replaced
  • Both Inner and Outer Rocker Panels cut out and replaced
  • Both Quarter Inner and Outer Wheelhouses cut out and replaced
  • LH Quarter Panel cut out and replaced
  • Front Cross member cut out and replaced
  • Floor pans cut out and replaced
  • Both doors replaced
  • New Front and Rear Bumpers (still in packaging)
  • Mustang II Independent Front Suspension w/ disc brakes
Customization:We were building this to be a show car with both IFS and IRS. The IRS on it currently is from a Jaguar but could be easily converted back to a standard Ford rear end. One of the main visual changes is that all the body lines were welded and refinished to create a very CLEAN look. Take a look at the photos and you will see virtually all the body lines are gone. This was completed by taking dozens of hours to measure, weld, grind and finish it to a smooth appearance.
This is also at the stage that if you wanted to go with a body kit (say Eleanor) you/your shop could add it on for that more aggressive look.
Motor:The original motor (289) is long since gone because we were going to go with a EFI set-up. I purchased a 4.6 EFI 32 Valve motor from a 1997 Lincoln with only 55K miles on it. (It is not included with this auction but could be purchased). The motor is currently fitted into the engine bay but if you prefer to go with a newer 5.0 coyote or back to a 289, it would be easy at this stage to set it up how ever you want.
Parts:All the parts I have (other than the motor/tranny) are included with this auction. I will get more photos posted but I do have the following:
  • Hood
  • Trunk Lid
  • Steering Column
  • Convertible Top Frame (Worth over $1500 by itself if you can find one)
  • Rear Seat Frames (also hard to find)
  • New Bumpers
  • Front/Rear Valances
  • I am sure there are a lot more, just have to go to my storage unit and take an inventory
I used to have all the parts but this car has been worked on by multiple shops and go-figure...parts went missing! I would love to see someone finish this car or use it as a replacement shell for your wrecked mustang. Heck, you could take a 67-68 coupe and swap all the parts over to this car and have a convertible that is worth $10-20K more than a coupe. Not to mention it is rust free with lots of customization.
Original Specs:
  • 1968 Ford Mustang
  • 2-Door Convertible
  • 8 Cylinder - 289" CID-2V
  • Automatic Transmission
  • Lime Gold - Exterior
  • Ivy Gold - Vinyl Bucket Seat

The reason I am selling is that after all these years, I finally found a great guy/shop who was going to finish the car. He got busy on the repairs last fall only to be involved in a car accident in sadly passed away. My heart is just not in it anymore and although I will never get but a fraction of the money I spent on the car back out of it, I really just want it to be finished.
I do have a car trailer that I can load her up on and deliver for a reasonable fee (and a reasonable distance from Charleston, SC). Also, please no scams or games. I have tried to describe this as clear as I can so please do your homework and feel free to ask me questions.
Thanks,Dave
