Description:

1950 Ford Other Pickups F3

VIN # of 98RY 214xxx breaks down as 1950 F3 3/4 ton Heavy Duty with flathead V8.
Truck is complete minus the rear bumper, seat, the air breather and the radiator. The front bumper (and missing rear bumper), steel plate bed floor, bracket on passenger side of bed to carry pipe (a third bracket would have been attached to the rear bumper) and spare tire mount were added by a oil field company in 1950. Nothing else on this truck has been altered from stock.
Has dual windshield wipers, a heater and a single sun visor. Gas tank has a petrified rag stuck in the gas tank. Tank seems solid and shows no rust. Rear section of drive-shaft is slightly bent. I think this thing was put on a flatbed with a large forklift at some point.
The hood latch is missing and where it mounts is bad rusty. The grill insert on the passenger side is the handle and it is there but the spring that pushes it out isn't working. This hood will need to have some welding done to it to make the hood latch right. I will strap the hood down for transport.
Truck has it's original flathead 8BA V8 with floor shift manual trans. Every wire is still hooked up as is all the linkage. Truck is very original and unmolested. Has been in a barn since the late 70's.
Odometer shows 7215 miles- the former owner swears it's actual mileage. The truck was bought new in Memphis and used as a work truck at an oil field service company in Stamps AR (notice the rack for carrying pipe and sucker rods on the passenger side) and then was parked and forgotten until the late 60's when it was sold to a junk yard in Waldo AR and used as a junk yard truck until the late-seventies when the owner of the junk yard got too old to drive it. According to the guy I bought it from it has never been tagged and has never been on the highway. I can't confirm any of this and will not try to- just relaying what the guy told me. I'm more apt to believe that the odometer stopped working at 7215. The clutch and brake pedal pads don't show any wear so I'm not sure I believe it has 107215 miles on it being a oil field truck and then a junk yard truck- just impossible to really know.
Truck is located twenty miles from Stamp AR. If this is all true the truck has been in this local area since 1950. I can confirm the truck still had the original two piece wheels on it that tire shops stopped mounting tires on decades ago. The trash in the bed of it was from the 70's- pull tab beer cans, skinny Sprite bottles, real oil cans.
Frame is solid. Steering works. Transmission shifts. Engine is assumed to be seized and I'd rather not ruin further it by trying to turn it over. Engine oil looks like sludge and the dip stick shows some rust.
Body has dents and rust. There is rust through along the bed sides where the floor is. THe bottom of the fenders where they meet the running boards is almost completely rusted away. The dash has rust through as does the cab above the windshield on the inside where the sun visor mounts. Very bottom of tail gate underneath has rust through. Fire wall and fender wells are solid. running boards are both bent some.
Back glass is missing- all other glass is cracked. Forward section of the cab floor is in bad shape, the portion under the seat and gas tank is good. Tail gate hinge is rusted up and the hinge mounts are welded to the rear fenders so I can't take it apart to loosen it up.
The rear most frame cross-member just behind the rear bumper is bent from being used to pull it at some point and has bent the driver side frame rail from the rear leaf spring mount to the rear bumper. Doesn't affect the geometry of the rear axle but will need to be bent back to take a slight twist out of the bed and to make a rear bumper fit properly.
The floor of the bed was replaced with a large piece of diamond plate steel many many years ago. It's rusty but solid.
I have all five of the original 17 inch two piece wheels. I'm putting modern wheels on it for transportation. The five original wheels will be in the bed of the truck.
This thing would make an excellent roughneck/vintage oil field themed rat rod. The 3/4 ton Heavy Duty truck has a wider bed and larger fenders than a 1/2 ton and looks very tough when done right.
