Description:
1956 Ford F-100
Great Truck. This truck runs and drives. It is currently registered and is an awesome vehicle. For example, it has sat for a couple weeks and today I went out to take some pictures (it is 35 degrees outside) and it started up on the first turn of the key.I purchased this truck about 8 months ago. Before that, it was last registered (to the best of my knowledge) in 2011. It did not run when I got it but was told it ran fine when it was parked. Below is what has been done to the truck to get it in its current state.
Note: The mileage indicated on the odometer is not accurate. The speedometer was not functioning when I got it and the true mileage is not known.
- Engine is a 223 straight 6. I believe it is the original but I cannot be sure. It runs smooth and strong with no smoke.
- The original gas tank was not connected and there was a temporary tank in the bed of the truck. The entire original fuel system was bypassed along with an electric pump. I installed a new tank, new sending unit, new pump, filter and some of the lines were replaced to bring it back to the original setup.
- New tires put on the original steel wheels. About 500 miles on the tires.
- All new brake components (drums, slave cylinders, all springs, cables and shoes). Basically all brake components on all 4 corners.
- The intake and exhaust manifolds were cracked and basically fell apart. I purchased a used original cast iron intake and replaced the exhaust with a header. True dual exhaust with two mufflers.
- New exhaust that exits right before the rear tire on the driver side.
- New battery tray and battery.
- New starter.
- Replaced the original canister oil filter with an adapter and screw on filter.
- New 3 core aluminum radiator (still have the original and will provide with sale, it has a leak), also new hoses.
- New turn signal and marker light lenses and bulbs.
- New headlights.
- New speedometer cable. Speedometer and fuel gauge was not working when I got it. They do now.
- New air filter
- The hoses (vent hoses) on the heater just fell apart. I have new ones but they have not been installed yet.
- The glove box was someones hand made attempt at a glove box. I removed that and have a new one but it has not been installed yet.
- The body has some rust (see pictures), the front of the hood is the worst part, but the frame is solid. I have done zero body work to this truck. What you see is how I got it. There is some body filler visible on the corner of the cab. I have no idea how much there actually is. I do not believe there is any body damage (as in large dents), I just think someone made a horrible attempt at sealing over some rust without actually taking care of the rust.
- The rear axle is not the stock axle. It has a Ford 9" rear end in it (an upgrade over the original). As a side effect, the speedometer is a little off. On that note, the truck will do 70mph down the interstate. (the speedo said 60, but I eventually found out I was doing well over 70).
- It has a 3 speed manual. 3 on the tree. The odd thing is that it is setup for left hand shifting. Odd, but works perfectly. (a little stiff when it is cold outside)
- Heater works well.
- Someone put a metal, diamondplate bed in the truck. No, the wood is not under it. The rest of the bed is solid.
- New electric wiper motor (replaced the original vacuum wiper motor). New wiper arms and wipers. Setup currently does not work because I managed to break the arm under the dash. Easy fix, just haven't done it yet.
- New vacuum advance on the distributor (the original had a terrible leak)
- Rebuilt the carburetor.
- New choke cable.
- New wiper switch.
Truck is currently in Cornelius, NC (just north of Charlotte).
