Happy "eBaying"! Paul R. Wankle, Pres. Classic Cars Ltd. Pleasanton, CA 925-846-1451 DESCRIPTION - 1950 FORD F1 RAT ROD This Rat Rod is even unique among Rat Rods! Not only does it have incredible "personality”, unlike many poorly constructed examples, the car is very well built, designed, and represents a truly one of a kind Hot Rod. It is 100% fresh with a current speedometer (fully functional) reading of 678 miles. The truck was built by a Hollywood special effects expert who wanted to show off his abilities in the form of a Rat Rod. The truck began as a 1950 all steel Ford F1 pickup and the final build utilized the frame, cab, and bed of the California truck. A substantial amount was invested in the construction of the Ford, in addition to hundreds of hours of labor to create this masterpiece. It was estimated that it would take in excess of $50,000.00 to duplicate this truck. When it comes to the body, the 1950 Ford F1 was professionally chopped 6 inches, and the body and truck bed were channeled. The functional tow set-up and electric winch were custom designed and fabricated and while they were added for appearance, could be used to tow smaller, lighter vehicles (boats, ATV's, motorcycles??). Also, the truck has a beefy tow hook and could be used for towing. The interior also reflects the creative genius of the builder / designer including steel seats with custom leather look bottoms, a skull steering wheel, new, functional Cal gauges, a glove box mounted MP3 connection, finished floors using bed-liner, push button starter, toggle for 4-trumpet train air horns (the loudest available), and a tall / skull headed shift lever. Mechanically, the car is not only turn-key, but built using high quality components. Start with a crate, ZZ4 Chevrolet engine producing an estimated 350+ horsepower, mated to a rebuilt TH 350 transmission. Engine modifications include an Edelbrock high rise, polished manifold, Holly carburetor, wild, wrapped side exit exhaust (and an extra set of custom made jet coated pipes - refer to photos), polished Edelbrock valve covers, and a polished hood scoop. Other items include a chromed alternator, transmission pan, aluminum radiator, and updated rear suspension including new shock absorbers. The truck has been completely gone through mechanically as is evidenced by new brakes, brake lines, radiator hoses, gauges and exterior trim, Including expensive wheels and tires. The electrical system is fully functional including the headlights, brakes lights, turn signals and 4 rear spot lights. At the rear, the truck is complete with a custom engineered and designed tow set-up including bracing, chains, and a functional electric winch. Other items mounted on the back of the truck include a matching, mounted front wheel and new tire (an additional new tire and mounted wheel is also included), three 5 gallon fuel tanks that match the lettering on the truck, a fire extinguisher, and 4 working lights that shine backwards for loading. An inspection of the underside of the Rat Rod shows a rust free, straight frame that has been strengthened (refer to photos) including a number of custom upgrades. These include a fabricated transmission mount, improved rear suspension with traction bars, drive shaft support, and other improvements. The rear end is a beefy Ford 9", the new aluminum radiator can be seen as can the new brake lines, chrome transmission pan, and 4 very loud train air horns. Simply add your business name on the doors, and the truck would make a perfect advertising vehicle for a Hot Rod shop, motorcycle business, automotive store, or what have you. Thank you! Classic Cars Ltd. 925-846-1451 A LITTLE RAT ROD HISTORY Originally, Rat Rods were a counter-reaction to the high-priced "customs" and typical hot rods, many of which were seldom driven and served only a decorative purpose. The Rat Rod's inception signified a throwback to the Hot Rods of the earlier days of Hot-Rod culture when cars were built according to the owner's abilities, and with the intention of being driven. Rat Rods are meant to loosely imitate, in both form and function, the "traditional" Hot Rods of the era. Biker, greaser, rockabilly, psychobilly, and punk sub-cultures are often cited as influences that shaped the Rat Rodding phenomenon. While Rat Rods are extremely varied and highly personalized, generally, Rat Rods share some common characteristics. They are generally built from late-1920s through to late-1950s coupe, roadsters, trucks, or sedans. The bodies are frequently channeled over the frame and sectioned, and roofs are chopped, for a lower profile. Many Rat Rods are devoid of fenders, fitted with larger tires, and other modifications. Maltese crosses, skulls, and other accessories were often added. While the vehicles owner is generally the builder, today, several highly respected custom builders are constructing quality, high-end Rat Rods as a result of the demand for this new style of "Rod.” More recently, the term "Rat Rod" has been used incorrectly to describe almost any vehicle that appears unfinished or is built simply to be driven. Chopped tops, shaved trim, grills, tail lights, and other miscellaneous body parts continue to be swapped between makes and models. Longtime rodding scribe Pat Ganahl took a broad look at the Rat Rod trend and had this to say: "I see what are referred to as Rat Rods today comprising three elements: First are the traditional rods and customs. Those are cars built the way rods were built in the '30s, '40s, and early '50s, with a primary emphasis on low-buck and home-built, using period-correct components including wide whitewall tires to skinny black-wall bias-plies, and black primer to hand-rubbed paint. "Second is what I personally call Rat Rods, as a positive term... They're artistic, fun, and sensational reinterpretations of late-'40s/early-'50s hot rodding as a culture that includes music, clothing, hairstyles, and tattoos. The cars are low, loud, chopped...with giant rear tires, lots of carburetors, open pipes, and tall gearshifts. "Third is...what I derisively call Crap Rods today. They've always been part of the mix, unavoidably. I take exception to those who think that shoddy construction is somehow cool, or worse, those who know they can throw a bunch of junk parts together and peddle it as a cool rat rod to some inexperienced buyer who doesn't know the difference." While some traditional hot rodders and restorers express dissatisfaction with the Rat Rod trend, many recognize it as a way to continue the interest in Hot Rods in a different and creative manner. While many Rat Rods are poorly constructed and comprised of a mish-mash of parts, others demonstrate high quality cars that have been well thought out and represent highly unique, interesting Rods, built with quality components. One thing is clear, over the last ten to twelve years rat rods have become more and more accepted at car shows and in the custom car culture in general, with many car shows either including sections for rat rods, or beginning events directly devoted to them and aimed at wider audiences than ever before. ABOUT CLASSIC CARS LTD. - Classic Cars Ltd. has been in the same, small, California town for over 24 years. We operate a small "brick & mortar", indoor showroom, and specialize in the sale, consignment, and purchase of sports, high performance and specialty vehicles of all types. We have a particular interest in sports cars and unique vehicles. - The majority of our vehicles come from local, private owners and collectors, and many were sold new in California. We appreciate that rust free cars, with excellent documentation and history are especially attractive to our buyers both locally, and around the country. As a result, we do not purchase our collectible cars from "distressed" sales, such as wholesale auctions, salvage sales, or lien sales. We do not sell vehicles with salvage titles, or those that have a history of significant accident damage or repair. -We have sold hundreds of unique, classic and collectible vehicles and regularly deal with buyers that have not had the experience of purchasing a large (both physically and monetarily) item on eBay, or through an Internet source. Our eBay feedback reflects a lifetime 100% positive on vehicle sales from customers around the globe and is a reflection of our commitment to accurate, complete, and thorough vehicle descriptions. - We have been shipping vehicles for years and have established excellent contacts that are not only high quality but very price competitive. We do not use brokers, terminal shipping or other discount methods. Call us or email for a quote directly to your home or office. We are often able to obtain quality enclosed transportation (the kind of travel this car deserves) for the cost of open shipping. - Please review our feedback on eBay (user name Never22Many) representing over 915 positive transactions to buyers all over the United States / World. - We are fully insured, bonded, and licensed for collector car sales all over the United States/World. - Classic Cars Ltd. carries a $50,000 Surety bond to cover financial transactions - We frequently sell vehicles to out of State / out of country buyers, and will be glad to provide references for buyers in your area. MISCELLANEOUS GENERAL INFORMATION - As with virtually all collector/specialty vehicles, we find that parts and resources are readily available for this (and most every vehicle), thanks in large part to the Internet. - In addition to the purchase price of the vehicle, California buyers will be subject to sales tax, a documentation fee, DMV transfer fees and license/registration. Out-of-state buyers will be responsible for the purchase price of the vehicle and any local taxes/fees will be the purchaser's responsibility to pay in their respective state. IMPORTANT NOTE: If the vehicle is delivered or driven in California and driven on California roads, sales-tax, license/registration and transfer fees will be assessed per California law. - While we encourage telephone calls to discuss this vehicle in greater detail we will not respond to inquiries asking "What is the reserve". Also, if you would prefer that we call you to answer any questions about the vehicle; shipping alternatives, etc. please e-mail us with your telephone number and will gladly get back in touch with you. - We encourage inspections of this Ford by serious, qualified individuals or professional inspectors. Please call at 925-846-1451 to arrange a convenient time. - As with any custom built vehicle of this vintage we are unable to provide a warranty or guarantee of condition. However, we make every effort to accurately represent our vehicles, and highlight both positive items as well as areas that require attention. We ask that prospective buyers consider our eBay history/feedback, standing in the community, length of time in business, and other factors when purchasing a collectible vehicle from Classic Cars Ltd. - Minor cosmetic issues/flaws may be present on every vehicle (regardless of cost) including small chips, nicks, scratches, etc. that can be seen on even the best restoration, or even a relatively new, used "pre-owned" vehicle. Also, ownership of a specialty vehicle is more enjoyable if the owner is familiar with the "realities" of these unique cars. Unlike more modern day vehicles, these cars require regular, ongoing care/maintenance and some mechanical knowledge, patience, and understanding can make the experience considerably more pleasant. That said, collector / "specialty" car owners will tell you (emphatically) that they love their cars and wouldn't trade them for anything!! - The information contained in this description is believed to be accurate but, in some instances, has been provided by the car's owner / owners or outside sources. As a result, we are unable to guarantee the accuracy of the information. We encourage verification of "numbers" and significant data prior to the purchase of any collector vehicle that you are considering. Thank you, Classic Cars Ltd. 925-846-1451
