Introducing Big Brown…….Named by the kids. Really sorry to see her go but i recently retired and have six vehicles. Time to start selling my toys.
First off, this is not some thrown together truck. This truck was 99% original when i bought it from the original owner in California. I still think of it as mostly original. Everything I've done was to make this baby a daily driver. I do not like things breaking down on me.
OK lets go through this big girl.
Body; Original paint….YES, thats original. It has a really nice patina going in all the right places. It still shines as you can see. When i bought her i planned to paint her. I just can't bring myself to paint her…maybe you will. Its so rare to see a 79 with its original paint….and still looking good. NO BONDO….not an ounce. She does have a few small dings here and there. I use her, she doesn't just sit around. Took her camping this past Memorial Day, drove her two hours from home through the mountains pulling a trailer. Mostly i use her as my Home Depot and Lowes runner.
Interior; New seat. New Rear sliding window and rubber. All new weather seals. New heavy duty floor fitted matting….no carpet. New Kenwood stereo and 6x9 speakers behind the seat. When the old carpet was removed we coated the floor with professional coating. There was no rust at all. New door panels. I have the fuel injection monitor mounted inside the truck, its portable so you don't have to keep it there if you didn't want to. I like it because you can live monitor all engine info; rpms, fuel input and output…..it really makes thing so easy. Adding the fuel injection and the monitor made this baby a modern vehicle. Its like having a dyne build on to the truck. I love it, everyone i know thats switched to this FiTech fuel injection loves it…….its AWESOME! Everything in the truck works, even the dome light. Gauges and all…….except the rear fuel tank gauge? I think its the in tank unit. I just haven't made the time to drop the tank. WHat I've been doing is i fill both tanks, switch it to the rear tank when it starts running out just flip it to the front tank. Easy day.
Engine Compartment;Strong running 400. When i bought here she had unbelievable low miles. the gentlemen i got her from said they were original. I have no reason not to believe him. Everything else matched up perfectly, she runs perfect so i did and still do believe that this truck has never been rebuilt. Even my father doubted it, until he seen and drove her. This truck is tight. Ive put over five thousand miles on her the last six months alone.I had her switched to fuel injection a while back……LOVE IT! This was the single best investment I've done to her. She responds perfectly, no hesitation at all. You can literally adjust everything connected to the FI. Its like having a dyno under the hood. That set up alone was close to $5000 installed. But she will never fail you, starts up on the first key turn EVERY time.New wires, plugs, MSD distributor, fuel pump fuel amp tank, dual battery set up from a late model F250, two new batteries, radiator, Eldebrock intake, filter. This is a California truck so it has all the emissions still in place. I did disconnect all the smog crap since i don't need it here in New Mexico. Also, its an A/C truck, i also have it disconnected. Everything is there if you need it or want to hook it back up. Its easy, just put the two belts back on, they are included and will be behind the seat. New dual exhaust with glass packs. Sounds great….very healthy…not too loud.
Undercarriage;Front and rear end have been gone through. They were both leaking so i had the shop take care of that. They have the label plates on them saying they were rebuilt as well. She actually had a few leaks from a few places going so about four months back i took her in and had them fix everything. They replaced the rear main seal, oil pan seal, valve covers, front and rear ends, and the transfer case had a leak too……by the time they were done i had a $2500 bill. So…..its going to sound like a huge whopper but this big girl doesn't leak…………i know……..yeah right right? Ill include the receipts with the sale. Also, all my work is done by Motiva Performance in Albuquerque, NM. They can verify all the above. Like i said earlier, i like my vehicles to be reliable. Too many bad memories of my parents vehicles breaking down when i was young. Not fun.She has a 4 inch Rough Country spring lift, not blocks. New Rough Country steering stabilizer. There is no rust on her, i see a lot of old cars on here with spray painted undercarriages…..not her. I can take more pictures of whatever you want to see, just ask. Nothing to hide on here….shes not perfect but i haven't seen a better example anywhere.
Wheels/Tires; 35inch Grabber AT2's with snow spikes and Pro Comp wheels. Very nice combo.
I can talk about Big Brown all day so I'm going to stop now. Feel free to ask questions and I'm always open to you coming by for an inspection and test drive. I have noting but open land all around so we can take her out and see what she can do. SHe is a solid truck. No rattles like you might expect. SHe is set up to be a reliable daily driver……..but so much more. Some time i use her five days in a row and sometime she goes two weeks without being ran. Starts right up and runs like a champ every time.
God Bless.
