1978 Ford F-150 4X4, California Truck, V-8, PS, PB, Automatic, Solid, NO Rust
1978 Ford F-150
This is a very solid 1978 Ford F150 4X4 pickup from the dry state of California. This truck is extremely solid and has no rust on it. There is no rust in the floor pans, rocker panels, rear quarters, hood, front fenders, tailgate, box, and doors. There has not been any rust repairs made as well to the body, it is all original metal. Even though this vehicle is in Michigan now, it has never seen a Michigan winter or road salt. The odometer shows 78,789 miles to date, believed to be original as I was told, nothing tells me or shows me to believe it’s not true. The truck runs and drives nice. This truck has not been all jacked up and lifted, it is a pretty stock unmolested truck, other than some upgrades. This is pretty much ready to drive and enjoy.
ENGINE:
Ford 351M V-8 engine that runs well. Does NOT knock or rattle or make any other noises. To the best of my knowledge it is stock and hasn’t been worked on other than general maintenance like plugs, wires, belts, hoses, etc.
TRANSMISSION / TRANSFERCASE:
C-6 automatic transmission that shifts good, no other work done to it as known other that fluid and filter changed. New Process 205 gear drive transfercase that shifts freely into both high and low range.
AXLES / SUSPENSION:
Dana 44 front axle, disc brakes, 3.50 gears, open diff. Ford 9” rear axle, 3.50 gears, big bearing housing. Both axles are pretty much stock, other than having brake work done, and routine maintenance performed. Bearings, seals, ball joints, u-joint, and tie rods are all in good working order. This truck has NO lift kit on it. Shocks and steering stabilizer are all in good working order. Rear driveshaft is new, front one is good and tight, not sloppy. Lockout hubs turn freely as well.
INTERIOR:
The interior has the original bench seat in it with a seat cover on it. The carpet has been replaced at one time and is in good condition. The dash pad is not cracked or warped. No extra drill holes or anything like that on the dash. It has a Pyle stereo in it. All gauges, speedometer, wipers, and heater controls all work good. This truck has dealer installed air conditioning that currently is not hooked up. I have the underdash unit and compressor to go with the truck.
EXTERIOR:
The truck was repainted at one time in the burnt orange color. It is a respectable paint job, but it is not flawless. It does have some lights scratches and some chips here and there. There also are a few small dings in the hood and on the tops of the bed rails, nothing real bad or big, but they are there, pretty hard to see in the pictures. The paint has some really good shine to it, not all faded. All moldings/chrome are in decent shape, they are straight, the bumpers are a little aged. The outer grille shell is not all banged up, very straight. All the body panels appear to be the original OEM sheet metal. The inside of the bed is very solid and not beat up, very few dents inside of it. Someone prior had sprayed some cheap spray on bedliner out of a can, it is not very thick at all, a good power washing would probably remove allot of it. Again I cannot stress how solid and rustfree this body is.
OTHER / MISC.:
Tires are low on tread but do hold good air and run out good, mounted on 15 X 7 chrome wheels. The truck has factory power steering and factory power brakes that both work good. There is dual gas tanks on the truck and both gauges work. I have only ran out of the front tank, the rear should be cleaned out due to not being used for a couple years. Also has a Reese type 2" reciever trailer hitch on it.
The truck has the following new parts installed on it: Rear brakes, master cylinder, rear driveshaft, muffler, catalytic convertor, (YES its on there as well as the smog pump on the motor, it did pass CA emissions), and tailpipe.
There are two items that the truck could use: the windshield is cracked and the rear view mirror has fallen off the windshield. I never glued it back on knowing it was going to get replaced.
I have taken some time to write this description with honesty and details to the best of my knowledge. Yes the truck does need a few minor things, but nothing big or show stoppers. You could drive this home if you wish to. It has not been fully restored, it is not flawless, but a respectable truck. The underbody/chassis has not been all painted black with some spray cans, it’s pretty much original. It is fairly clean of dirt and grease.
