1962 Ford Thunderbird Convertible w/ Sports Roadster Tonneau Cover Low Miles - Original Drivetrain You are viewing a very nice, privately owned 1962 Ford Thunderbird Convertible/Sports Roadster. Classic Cars Online is helping the owner with the presentation and listing of this fine vehicle. You will be purchasing this vehicle directly from the current owner's family who has owned the vehicle since 2005 and has over seen the restoration. It is a highly optioned vehicle with most of the desirable power accessories. All of the hydraulics and motors that run the power "Hide-A-Way" convertible top are working great. The white soft top is stored away in the trunk compartment when the top is down. (See photos.) The "Sports Roadster" Tonneau cover was added during the restoration. It is in excellent shape and can be easily removed if someone needs room for passengers in the back seat area. The Sports Roadster was designed by Ford's Bud Kaufman to give the new 4-seater "Bird" the appearance of a sleek two-seater with a very long deck. Twin headrests at the cover's forward edge fit over the regular bucket seats, to flow back to the rear deck. The tonneau cover can be left on, as it does not interfere with the power top operation. We will try to describe and go over most of the car, please read and view all of the 82 pictures listed below. Would you buy a car on ebay with four pictures and one paragraph of description? NO. That is why at Classic Cars Online, our listings will go over and show every area of the vehicle that is up for auction. Bid with confidence! Paint / Body: The vehicle is finished in it's original color. "Raven Black". (Paint code:A) The body was stripped to bare metal. There is no rust or bondo repairs. It still retains all of its original sheet metal panels and floor pans. Being a black car, extra time was taken to ensure all the body panels were straight and true. Looking down the sides, you can see how nice and straight this body is. (The photos don't do justice to this body and paint job. Very nice.) The black paint has a very deep shine without any orange peel or other problems. There are no dents, door dings or scratches. There is a few small paint chips that could be easily repaired with a touch-up brush. The "Sports Roadster" tonneau cover was added during the restoration. The vehicle also has a set of rear fender skirts installed. It received all new weatherstripping during the restoration. A high-quality car cover goes along with the car. Chrome / Trim: All of the chrome and stainless steel trim pieces were either replaced, rechromed, or reconditioned. The bumpers along with the other chrome pieces are bright, straight and pit free. The stainless trim moldings were straightened and polished. The factory grille looks great. The light bezels/housings are all in excellent condition. The vehicle is equipped with dual outside mirrors. Convertible Top: The white convertible top was replaced during the restoration. It is in great shape. (It spends most of the time tucked away in the trunk.) All of the power and hydraulic components are working like they should. Everything works with one switch. Interior: The black interior was replaced. It was redone with the correct original materials and is stock looking. There are no holes, rips, marks or other problems with the seats, door panels, center console, or dash pad. The chrome interior trim/knobs are nice and are free of any pitting or oxidation problems. All of the gauges have been gone over and are in working order. The clock was converted to a quarts movement. The radio was update with a Factory-like AM/FM radio. The vehicle is also equipped with power windows, power seat, "Swing-Away" steering wheel, and seat belts. The owner's manual is in the center console. Engine Compartment: Under the hood sits the original 390cu. in. 300HP engine (Z code). It was rebuilt during the restoration. (See the "Mechanical" section for more details.) Even though the engine compartment is clean and stock looking, it could use a little more detailing and freshening up to take it to the next level. A new battery was just installed. Wheels and Tires: The four radial whitewall tires are Toyo Spectrum, size P215/70R14. They are like new with plenty of thread. They are mounted on 48-spoke chrome wire wheels. These type of wire wheels would have come with the "Sports Roadster" model package. All of the wheels are in excellent condition. The vehicle does have a spare tire, but we forgot to lift the cover to check the type. Undercarriage: Again, the vehicle still has all of its original floor pans. The bottom still has a lot of the original undercoating. During the restoration it was determined that it was solid and didn't need any repairs. The bottom looks original but is not like a show car. The undercarriage was gone over mechanically but not cosmetically. There is a new dual exhaust system installed that is in great shape with no known problems. The front suspension has a heavy duty stabilizer bar. New shocks at all four corners. Mechanical: The owner has all the receipts from the work/restoration since owning the vehicle along with a few more from the previous owner going back to 1995. The original 390cu. in. engine was professionaly rebuilt along with the cylinder heads. (New cam shaft and lifters.) The "Cruise-O-Matic" automatic transmission was also rebuilt. Everything under the hood was either gone over, rebuilt, replaced or repaired. New power steering pump. Electronic ignition. The brake system received new wheel cylinders and the master cylinder was rebuilt. Condition Summary: After spending a little time taking the photos and looking the vehicle over, here is what we think. The car is gorgeous. The paint job is excellent and the body is extra straight. All of the bright work is great also. The black interior is very nice, but could use a quick cleaning and detailing to make it look new again. That is the same about the engine compartment. It looks nice, but with a little more time and detailing it could be show ready. The vehicle hasn't been driven a lot recently. It has been started and let run from time to time. The spark plugs could use a quick cleaning or a nice hard drive to help blow all the carbon build up out. Typical with any car that sits for awhile, we noticed some fluids on the ground. (Oil and trans.) It may just need to be driven to get the seals flexible again. With a little time and detailing, someone take this car to the next level again. Everything is there and in great shape it only needs some cleaning and TLC. Reserve Price: Please don't ask what the "Reserve Price" is, or if we have a "Buy it Now" price.
