I purchased this Very Unique Galaxie 5 years ago from a Mechanic who meticulously brought this car back to life. He is a Chevy guy but could not stand to see the Galaxie sitting in a Barn neglected so he negotiated a deal and bought the car. The older Gentleman who originally built the car was going into a Nursing Home and his wife was selling all his Classic Hot Rods. The original build was very professionally done with no expense spared. Following is a list of work performed by the Mechanic prior to my purchase:
---------------------------------------
- Rebuilt and Tuned Tri-Power
- Gas Tank Cleaned
- All new Shocks
- New Fuel Filter
- Upgrade Petronix Ignition
- New Headlight Switch
- Choke Conversion Kit
- New Fuel Pump
- New Water Pump
- Complete Tune Up
- Brakes Rebuilt
- New Idler Arms
- Front End Alignment
- All New Window Regulators
- All New Window Seals and Felt Kits
-------------------------------------
Below is a List of Items I've Redone:
-------------------------------------- New Headliner
- Front and Back Seats completely redone with new Foam and Hand Made Upholstery
- New Carpet
- New Gas Pedal
- Custom Package Tray
- Touched Up Various Scratches and Dings with Paint Store Matched Enamel
- Had Car Professionally Buffed and Polished
-------------------------------------
Mechanically this car is Dialed-In and is Great on both the Street and if you're so inclined the Strip.I asked the Mechanic what he felt the Horsepower and 1/4 Mile time would be and he said 400 HP and Mid 12's. I generally take it out a couple times a week just to feel the Raw Power and wash away any stress I may built up. Once in awhile I'll put the pedal down 3/4's to feel all 3 Carbs open up but for the most part I just cruise. I've never taken it to the Strip but from the look of the build it is meant to Run the 1/4 mile. Quite Frankly I'm almost scared to put the pedal to the metal.
Cosmetically the interior is in Very Good Shape. The Seats, Carpet, and Headliner are new so they are perfect. The dash has a 5" Crack above the instrument cluster and is in overall "okay" shape but could use a New Cover. I polished and cleaned up all the metal work inside but there are still some scratches and wear and tear that could not be cleaned. The Door Panels and Console Cover were previously customized and when I had the Seats and Headliner done I had them match the Package Tray to the custom work.
It looks as if there has been one repaint on the Galaxie. I purchased matching paint from The Paint Store and filled in various scratches and chips. I also removed and resprayed the Hood as it was pretty cruddy looking. Lastly I had a Professional come in and Buff and Polish the whole car. The paint is not perfect and if you look closely you can see a lot of imperfections. Overall though it has a nice Patina Shine and is very presentable especially when you combine it with the Incredible Drive Train and Mechanical upgrades.
