A new year often inspires thoughts about the future. Planning, resolutions and idealizing what should be instead of optimizing what is. But whatever happened to the 'here and now'? You know, living in the moment and enjoying what we have as opposed to fighting for constant betterment and forever prolonging joy. So many enthusiasts are enthralled with owning the biggest, baddest and awesome-est garage trophy that they completely lose sight of the reason they fell in love with cars in the first place. I mean, have you ever met any seasoned gearhead who reminisces about huge residuals or plastic trophies? That's why inventory like this sweet '67 Mustang is such a soothing breath of fresh air. Sure, it's a stellar classic that wears a squeaky clean restoration. And yes, I'm willing to bet it'll build some value and grab a few trophies. But it's also the kind of car you buy because you actually enjoy working on, driving in, and playing with Detroit's finest metal. So, if you've been nodding in agreement with everything I just said, this slick Ford belongs in your garage!

BODYWORK/TRIM

Restored by the professionals at Valdosta, Georgia's Modern Built Classics, this show-quality resto-mod enhances both driving and comfort. The car's build, an 11-month process that was completed in 2015, mixed largely original sheetmetal with a fresh hood and new trunk pan. Once that steel was completely stripped and fully prepped, a vivid layer of Metallic Silver 2-stage was complemented with a Charcoal Gray valance and raised to an excellent shine. That clean pigment, devoid of all factory emblems, was finished with mirrored bumpers, fresh glass, straight stainless and correct factory lighting. And items like an ornate grille, a billet SN95 antenna and dual chrome mirrors provided just enough detailing to put a modern spin on a storied classic.

ENGINE

'Keep it simple' is a good philosophy when it comes to performance and reliability. And the builders of this top-notch Mustang did exactly that by bolting a familiar 289 under the car's long silver hood. At the top of the fully rebuilt mill, a finned and polished air cleaner drops oxygen in to a Concept One throttle body fuel injection system. Below that juice box, an Edelbrock Performer 289 intake rides between factory Ford heads that are equipped with attractive, Cobra-style valve covers. At the front of those heads, a familiar points distributor shoots spark through proven MSD Street Fire plug wires, which snake around clean Hedman Hedders. In front of those wires, a stylish Concept One pulley drive spins a polished Powermaster alternator above modern air conditioning and modern power steering. And at the front of that drive, a big SPAL puller fan cools a fresh aluminum radiator. Aesthetically, the Ford Blue small block rides in a slick, Charcoal Gray engine bay that appears to have seen very little road time. And high quality components, like stainless fluid lines, color-keyed dipsticks and body-matched brace bars, provide subtle visual detail.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

At the bottom of this Ford, a spotless undercarriage houses solid, body-matched floors that are mapped with a roster of restoration-fresh parts. Behind the buff FE, a proven C4 3-speed twists a tough 9-inch axle. That drivetrain rolls on a fully rebuilt suspension that appears to be factory-correct in every way. Turns come courtesy of lucid power steering. Stops are provided by fresh power front disc and rear drum brakes. The aforementioned headers dump spent gases in to aluminized pipes, which employ throaty Dynomax mufflers and polished stainless tips. And power scorches the pavement through familiar American Racing Torq Thrust Ms, which twist 205/45ZR17 BF Goodrich g-Force Sports in front of 225/50ZR17 BF Goodrich g-Force Sports.

INTERIOR

Between the doors, a crisp interior mixes fresh Black vinyl with miles of satin trim. Top dead center, factory-style buckets front a coveted Sport Deck bench. A silver-faced dash loads a glowing combination of digital and analog telemetry over body-matched air conditioning vents and a direct-fit AM/FM radio that commands large quarter speakers. At the floor, a short factory shifter rides inside a stylish, hard-lined console, which, itself, rides inside fresh carpet, tough, pony-branded floor mats and fresh, Ford-branded sills. At the roof, a tight headliner frames a cool consolette. At the sides of the car, ornate door panels frame traditional handles. In front of the driver, a thick steering wheel spins speed-drilled spokes around a patriotic Mustang emblem. And behind the cockpit, a clean trunk features a plenty of space to haul trophies.
