1968 Ford Fairlane 500 FASTBACK

Hello. I have decided to part with a pretty rare vintage 1968 Ford Fairlane 500 Fastback that has a lot of potential. It is an original BIG BLOCK 390 Y Code car with the original engine. C6 transmission with an obvious shift kit. The 2 barrel was ditched many years ago however and has been replaced recently with a new Edelbrock 650 Performer carburetor. The engine has just been freshly rebuilt and is not completely broken in yet. This car was was upgraded years ago with a Weiand aluminum intake, olid lifters and a high performance cam set up then had only about 1000 miles put on them before this car was parked for about 20 years. Cylinders have just been boring 60 over and the pistons and rings of course replaced. Cam and crank bearings are new as well as the freeze plugs. The following items are also new.Spark plugs and wires.Electronic distributor.Water pump.Aluminum radiator and all hoses.Alternator.Battery and cables.Starter and solenoid.Carburetor.Chrome custom valve covers and breather.Fuel Tank, uel pump and fuel line from firewall to carb..Brakes and brake cylinders.Master cylinder.Headlights and all bulbs.Tires.Transmission front seal, ear seal, an gasket and filter.Voltage regulator.Various wiring that was found to be old and unreliable.Trunk lock.Inside rear view mirror.Horns.
Headlights, rake lights, ark lights, urn signals and emergency flashers all work.Brakes and steering are manual.Tach, il pressure, ater temp and Volt meter guages have been installed. Heater and windshield wipers are not currently working. Interior is all original and has a bench seat up front that currently has a better than average quality seat cover over it. Both seats need recovering but I would think most people would want to install bucket seats and a floor shifter. Original carpet is remarkably still in pretty good shape and dark maroon in color as are the seats and door panels. Drivers side arm rest has a damaged place on it. The door panels are still in pretty good shape. The headliner has a seam that needs to be sewn back together. Rear sail panels are toast and need replacing. Platform behind the back seat is worn and could use a repaint or carpet. Front driver's side wheel well chrome trim piece has some dings in it. Transmission kick down linkage was removed many years ago when this car was drag raced but down shifting manually will get the job done and is more fun.The body is straight. No dents. Yes this car needs a paint job and there is rust in places that needs to be properly addressed before a good paint job is applied which this car deserves. I have sprayed color matching primer paint over some areas to give it a slight cosmetic uplift but that's about it. Most rust is small spots here and there and mainly in the back 3rd of the car. The rear quarters are not in need of replacement but do have some rust spots. Inside the trunk by the way is pretty nice for a nearly 50 year old car. Under the car there is the usual surface rust but nothing major to be concerned about. The floor boards do not need replacing. There currently is just the driver's side front seat belt installed. I have other belts that were given with the car that need cleaning and are not complete. This car will need the rubber door seals replaced and the driver's side piece that goes vertically between the front and back window. The trunk seal was replaced by the last person who owned it before me.This car has a powerful engine that needs to be broken in properly and currently is being enjoyed with long style vintage open headers that have great sound. The muffler/exhaust placement will be up to the new owner. Please see images for more detail. Did I mention that the engine bay is gorgeous? Not much you have to do in that area but put on some sunglasses and enjoy the view. This car was set up for drag racing about 25 years ago and has a 4:11 gear rear end which does make the speedometer inaccurate. All glass in this car is in good shape. Doors open and close smoothly and hinges are tight with no play. Grill and bumpers are in good shape. All emblems are original to the car and intact. The AM radio is original to the car and is not working but currently you couldn't here it over the sweet rumble of the motor anyway. I'm in the country near Tallahassee, lorida so please keep this in mind if interested in this great vintage car. If you need any further images let me know as I will be posting more on a daily basis.
