1966 FIAT 1500 cabriolet ( BLACK PLATE CALIFORNIA CAR)
1966 Fiat 1500
this is a very nice all original california car sold new in san jose, and then sold to me in central florida approx 15+ years ago. i have been around several FIATS and mechanically they are pretty good cars.the major problem they usually have is rust. this car has NONE. BEWARE OF RECENT PAINT JOBS on cars as they more often than not are full of bondo covering up the rust. if a car is rusted and covered up with bondo it will pop back out in 2-5 years revealing what you have but NOT what you thought you bought.when i buy a car; i spend more money buying one away from the ocean in california or arizona where humidity is minimal and rust pretty much non existen, (unless in california it sits in a coastal city that has salt in the air).this is why i bought this car.(it was rust free and recommended to me from my fiat parts guy in california).it has an very unusual body style. it looks like a baby FERRARI 250 pininfarina spyder. the grill is different otherwise it has major resemblance to an early '60's 250 FERRARI 250 spider pininfarina. on top of this you NEVER see these cars. you will run onto triumphs and mg's and a few alfas ;but few of these stood the rigors of midwest winters where the majority of them were sold .the salted roads ate them all up. the mileage of 55,000 is ACTUAL.IT AS BEEN DRIVEN 957 MILES ON AVERAGE PER YEAR this is a pretty hard thing to find today.it has been used as a toy since sold new in california.this car was in a large collection of a man who was terminally ill and was his last car he sold out of his collection as it was very special to him.he had spent a sizable amount of dollars maintaining this car about 5 years before my purchase. even the auto transport truck driver was amazed at the condition as it was on the top rack with underneath clearly visable when he delivered it to me.he said the president of Romania, where he was from, had one just like it that he drove on sundays. i have a collection of over 15 cars and it has been one of the most dependable cars in the collection.the engine runs great no smoke and no noises, the transmission syncro's are solid and this is the first year of the 5 speed transmission,so the RPM'S are very low at freeway speeds.the brakes are all overhauled with silicone brake fluid so corrosion in the brake system will not be a problem ;ever. the tires are older nylon tires in wide white walls,so you dont have to worry about the radial tire being too old (radial tires run a big risk of the side walls blowing out after 6-7 years of age. nylon tires do not have that danger. the car always starts and would be up for a 1,000 mile trip tomorrow; its THAT dependable. the paint looks like it is 2-3 years old with a very high gloss and no orange peel. the top is good shape as well as the rear window. the chrome bumpers are in fair shape; being original being over 55 years old; they show very well,BUT NOT PERFECT. the grill in in great shape and no evidence of ever being in any accidents.it has been garaged its entire life;thus the very nice condition of it today.negatives are very few but it has a few oil leaks under it like most cars of its age,but nothing severe.i keep a galvenized drip pan under it in my garage and just clean it every 6 months or so.'i am selling it and a couple other cars and boats i have to gather space and funds to buy a '63 split window corvette, otherwise i would keep it. no matter where the car is driven it gets accolades on its looks. i think the red paint and the wide white walls garner peoples eyes as well as the pleasant shape of the body. it is also rain tight and has an excellent heater,(items british cars seem to "never" have) the top has 2 latches and simply folds back, no fuss ;no muss.it also has a very rare optional removeable hardtop in nice shape i have never used the hardtop as it never gets very cold in central florida, but it none the less has one included in the sale. the rear of the interior has a flat jump seat for children or parcels.any question please feel free to contact me.this is the type of car you want to buy as i said i have had it for over 15 years, and has never failed me. deposit is non refundablend sale is absolute no returns due to it being 57 years of age. inspections are welcome as there is nothing to hide on this car.
