1971 Fiat 124 Spider Convertible Red RWD Manual
1971 Fiat 124 Spider
Vehicle DetailsThis was purchased from the PO having gone thru a 10 year slow crawl restoration by him.
The Good: he spent 10 grand in 2000 dollars on sheet metal work and paint. His work was absolutely beautiful.
Sheet metal replaced: both complete floors, seat risers, inner and outer rocker panels, front valance. Work was done really well. Paint and bodywork is a strong 9 Before some asks, I am not sure why the body man added the fiberglass to his sheet metal work, but I can assure you it is only cosmetic. Both floors are completely replaced with full steel new panels.
The engine is a 1800 transplant. He rebuilt the head, new water pump, timing belt, radiator, hoses. Motor runs very well, no funny noises etc..etc.. New clutch assembly. Front suspension completely rebuilt, new brakes, caliper, rotors, pads. I added ultra light cromadora magnesium wheels. Restored, very nice with brand new tires. These wheels are 1500 in this condition when you can find them.
The bad: PO must have run out of interest or $ or both, because the interior doesn’t live up to the body and paint. Bumpers will need be rechromed, or pick up a set of stainless steel bumpers from the seller in Viet Nam, I have bought two sets of these and the quality is great. Seats are reupholstered and are decent, a new carpet set is installed and it’s decent. The dashboard was replaced with a brand new reproduction dashboard not a dash cover, but an entire dash board, what’s lacking is the door panels, they need replacing. PO made his own wood panels for the dash, not my cup of tea, but they look OK. A new top was installed but wasn’t installed very well so while it looks OK, it should have a new top professionally installed. Preferably a Hartz Fabric top.The car will come with a set of weber dual downdraft carburetors with intake, manifold and air cleaners. I’ve put these on several cars and it really makes a performance difference, that’s $1000 value minimum. It will also come with a hardtop. That’s in excellent condition. Please see all the pictures as they are Intrigal part of the description I can provide any serious parties with coldstart videos driving videos or any other pictures they want to see. It’s getting hard to find any kind of rust free example of an early chrome bumper 124. Over all, a very nice driver, 100% rust free, laser straight body car that just needs fine tuning to be number 2 car. This one is just a little work short of being a super nice car and the really expensive hard stuff is all done. Please feel free to ask any questions.
