1989 Ferrari 348TS ready to defend its preservation award. Well serviced example

1989 Ferrari 348 TS

Launched at the 1989 Frankfurt Auto Show the Ferrari 348 was the next leap for the Italian brand. The 348 TS proceeded with style as it provided one of the last “raw” unassisted driving experiences passionate owners came to know in a package that is unmistakably Pininfarina. Recognized as a modern classic, this 1989 Ferrari 348 TS has been cared for by the 13-year owner, passionate about preservation above all else. Being a responsible caretaker is job one when owning such a machine and the time has come to pass the torch.

Knowing the importance of preservation over restoration the current owner, and local FCA chapter president, has gone to great lengths ensuring proper care has been taken. Most recently a full engine-out service was completed in January of 2024 along with additional preventative maintenance. Prior, in 2020 a complete clutch assembly was installed, half shafts renewed, and oxygen sensors replaced among other services. Historical records of previous ownership are available with the vehicle timelining proper servicing. With only 58K miles this well serviced 348 TS is ready to defend its title of 2023 FCA Annual Experience award for top preservation. Finding a better kept example is a hard task.

Upon start-up the 348 TS comes to life instantly, upon reaching operating temperature gears row with ease, notchy and precise, physical control to the symphony behind. Due to the original catalytic converters being empty the bank lights flash sporadically but do not impact performance. Turn-in and braking are engaging as no aids are present to assist. All gauges and lights across the dash function as expected. Switches and controls respond quickly with windows, cold A/C, and working radio. An aftermarket radio is fitted behind the flip up cubby. Time has been spent ensuring the driving experience is reliable.

The interior is complete with only minor signs of use on throughout the cabin. Driver seat shows less than normal wear along the bolster and bottom, passenger is clean with nice leather. The top dashboard leather has been replaced and is in excellent condition. Sticky button locations were refinished and are in good condition. Door sills are scrape-free with original entry pads, small paint imperfections along the driver door gasket can be found because of light top level surface rust under the paint. The removable targa top is complete with carpeted interior panels and exterior free of fading. Original behind seats top cover can be found in the front trunk. Other accessories include a tool kit, books and manuals, emergency light, and extra key.

All exterior panels are straight with no known previous damage or extensive paint work, showcasing the deep traditional Rosso. Several locations around the body have repaired chips or small imperfections. Groupings of stone chips along the front do not distract but are present. Scrape Armor is installed on the corners of the front lip to prevent harm. The passenger front wheel arch has a mild bend in the metal. Extreme care has been taken to keep the vehicle as original as possible, which includes minor evidence of use. Wheels are wrapped with tires from 2019 and are in good condition showing small scrapes. Preservation of a vehicle includes picking battles and staying true to the originality of this example became paramount for the owner, no extensive paint work would be performed.

Finding an early 348 TS in this condition with consistent servicing and attention is a tall order. Paired with the current driver becomes almost impossible.
