1969 Dodge Charger SE
eBay Description:
Up for sale is a beautiful 1969 Dodge Charger SE with the original matching numbers 383CI Magnum V8 engine and the 727 torque-flight heavy duty automatic transmission. This car was purchased by the current owner’s husband in 2006. Upon purchase he upgraded the brake system with an aftermarket Power SBBC 4-wheel disc setup. This is a great upgrade for this car as they are known for sub-par braking. During his free time, he enjoyed the Charger by doing upgrades like the brakes with future plans for the Charger that would involve his family. Please see the special note below from his wife:
Special Note from Wife:
This car is incredibly special to our family for very significant reasons. My late husband purchased it before his last deployment. He had previously owned one in college but sold it before he graduated with the hope of one day owning another. That opportunity came with this car. He planned to work on it with our young children. He wanted it to be a fun activity and a way to create some special memories with them, but that was not to be, as he was killed before he made it back home. For the last fifteen years, the car has remained in our garage. Our children are in college now; both are pursuing advanced degrees, and they do not have time to attend to the vehicle the way that is needed. Our hope is for someone to purchase it and have a vision the way that their dad once did.
With that said I am helping sell her late husband’s car. I have a back ground in muscle cars that goes back to the mid-eighties. I grew up in a body shop in PA. The “rust belt”, as you may have heard. I grew up around cars like Chevelle’s, GTO’s, Charger’s and other muscle cars. Being from the rust belt I’ve replaced many rusted out fenders, doors, rockers, rear quarters and trunks. On all makes and models. They all rust at some point if driven up north. This experience will be important later. I will be as honest in my description as not to miss represent anything. My description of this 69 Charger is based on my life-long experience and knowledge of modifying and restoring cars. It is my opinion only in the descriptions I give and your opinion may vary.
Please don’t forget this a 56-year-old car that is basically original. It is not perfect and does show signs of wear. This is a “Driver”. Nice enough for that weekend drive to the cruise-in or local car show for fun. It is however, not a “show car” in regards to “best Paint” type awards and such. But you will not be embarrassed to drive it!
Body:
This Charger has a super straight body painted in “Black”. This is not the original color. According to the fender tag paint code, F8, this Charger should be “Dark Green “Ivy Green Metallic”. It should also have a Full “Black Vinyl Top”, along with code A41 (White Hat Special), Chrome Roof Drip Moldings, Tinted Glass, LH Remote Mirror, Wide Sill Moldings and more. See Fender Tag Break Down. However, this is an extremely clean car for it’ age. From what I understand it spent most of its life in Arizona and lower California before being shipped to North Carolina in early 2010’s.
From what I could find this car was painted back in 1995-96. Approximately, 10 years before the current owner purchased it back in 2006. It seems at that time the car was green with a black vinyl top. This was removed when it was painted black. The “R/T” stripe was also added to just set it up part from the rest. Again, this car not an R/T car.
The body appears to be 95% rust free. The largest rust issue is a hole in the battery tray. The under carriage and suspension are virtually rust free. Please see the pictures. The body panels are straight and align as they should. The front fenders, lower valance, bumpers, doors, cowl, windshield, glass, window trim, door trim, quarter panels and such appear to be original. However, the hood and trunk have been replaced. The hood is an aftermarket fiberglass type looks original. Except the hood turn signal lights are not present. Also, the hood mounted latch is missing so you must use the hood pins. Please see pictures. The hood hinges have been modified to accommodate the hood being fiberglass. The headlights do work but the driver’s side needs help due to a broken bracket. There is a small wire that can be seen holding the inner light up. The upper grille support has been replaced with a chrome one. I’m not sure why. See pictures.
Undercarriage:
The under carriage is virtually rust free and appears to be original. No signs of damage to the body the body panels align and have nice gaps. The inner front fender wells are rust free and so is the suspension. The floor pans appear rust free and original as well as the torque arm and spring mounting boxes. Please see pictures.
Engine / Compartment:
The 383 Magnum has an upgraded Holley 4-barrel intake manifold with a 625cfm 4-barrel carburetor. The ignition system has been upgrade to HEI for better reliability. There are also upgraded finned valve covers and custom 383 Magnum air cleaner. The metal supporting the fenders, radiator, suspension looks original and never replaced due to any accidents. This Charger was equipment with A/C but someone removed the engine compartment components before the current owner purchased it. Please see pictures. The power steering works but it does leak. That will need to be addressed at some point. The engine wiring looks original with some minor upgrades to the ignition system. The windshield washer bottle is missing but the hoses and wiring is still there. It appears to have the original radiator with is amazing if I am correct. Please see pictures.
Interior:
The interior is in good shape for it’s age. It’s all black with chrome and wood grain accents. Front bucket seats and rear seat look good with no rips or stains. The headliner has a few minor wrinkles but still looks good. The dome light as well as the center console floor lights work. They work with the door as it opens and shuts. This car does have the light package XXX. The sun visors and mirror are good and function as they should. The door panels are in fair to good condition but they are original with the map pockets. The center floor console has a floor shifter and a working storage door. The dash is in fair to good condition with some fading. The dash pad itself is cracked and needs replaced. There is an updated stereo in the dash that does work. As the factory dash gauge package and they all work except for the clock. Carpet looks good and may have been replaced at some point.
Wheels and Tires:
Currently rides on basically new American Racing Torque Thrust II polished wheels. Sizes 15x7 up front with 15x8 on the rears with Dunlop Tires.
Trunk:
The trunk floor and gas tank have been replaced at some point. There is evidence of this at areas around the perimeter of the trunk. It still looks good just needs touched up in some areas. I don’t see any reason for this based on the areas around the trunk. Please see pictures.
Exhaust:
Headers with a basically new 3 inch Flowmaster 40 Series mufflers with turn downs at rear axle. Sounds great!
