We took on this truck project over two years ago as a labor of love and now that we have done all that we intended to do with it, will pass it on to the next person to take it over the finish line. Our main goal was to bring this truck "back from the dead." We couldn't stand to see it just sitting in a field and not out on the road. This truck has to much history and life left to be ignored. Our goal was to preserve it as a "survivor' truck and bring it up to a level in which you can get in it and drive it wherever you want to go without worry. We know that it may have been foolish to invest over $15,000 in this truck, but we are the type of people who believe in saving history and we have been in the "saving history" business for more than 25 years. We do not expect to make our money back on this truck, never have, but we want it to find a good home. So, we are offering this AUCTION with NO RESERVE! This truck only needs a few things finished and none of them inhibit it from being a daily driver. Truck runs and drives great. Motor is strong, transmission shifts smoothly, clutch is strong, breaks are very good, lights, horn, windshield wipers work, drives straight down the road, new wind shields, all glass excellent, etc, etc. We even spent over $1000 having the original seat built back just the way it was when new. This truck was sold new in Kansas in 1966 and spent the vast majority of it's life in that state. The original owner's manual as well as registrations and receipts for oil changes and maintenance going back to at least 1968 are in the glove box. Being from Kansas, the truck is not eaten up with rust or corrosion. There are few spots here and there around the body and there is visible surface rust to the underside. Truck could use to have the underside cleaned and coated. Everything else is very solid with only just a few pinholes in the bed. A dear friend of ours who lives in Oklahoma, bought this truck about four years ago and brought it home from Kansas. He had so many other projects that this one was sitting and we decided to take on this one. As the truck was completely original, except for a few old touch up spots on the paint, we decided to preserve the truck and let every bump and bruise remain visible. We decided that it would be best to do a "rustoration" (as Mike on American Pickers might say) on it and preserve this truck's history just as it sits. The vast majority of the work was done in Oklahoma, but we brought it home to Louisiana last year and had it finished up here. It has been completed for several months and has just been sitting while we contemplated what to do with it. As stated multiple time here, we spent over $15,000 to bring this truck back to life and leave as much of it original as possible. This is NOT including what we paid for the truck, but it is not about money at this point and this truck needs to be rolling down the highway instead of sitting in our driveway! We did upgrade the brakes a bit and switch it to electronic ignition to make it more dependable and safer. Almost everything that we had done can be seen in the receipts, except for most of the cosmetic things, which we can provide receipts for at a later time. Not listed in the receipts are new floors, new rocker panels, new door steps, new floor cover, original D100 hub caps, new gas pedal, NEW tires, additional clutch and clutch linkage work, electrical work on lights, gauges, wipers, horn, disassembly of the dash for cleaning, repairs, etc and the work of prepping the original paint and body for preservation and the coating. We saved all the original paint and old touch up spots, had them treated and then had the truck coated with two gallons of satin, textured clear coat that is designed for such projects. So, it has a little bit of a textured shine to it. Truck has a STRONG Running, Very Desirable Workhorse of a Motor, A "Poly" 318. Absolutely NO Smoke and NO Leaks. The truck does not leak at all from any areas. Transmission shifts correctly and clutch is very smooth. Brakes work great and are strong. Truck goes straight down the road and does not pull to one side or the other or "float." Truck had a number of options for 1966. Including two tone paint, full size rear window, aluminum body trim, 318ci V8 motor, "three on the tree" transmission, arm wrests, sun visors, oil gauge, cigarette lighter, bumper guards and a two tone overstuffed seat. Only 48K V8 Dodge D100s were made in 1966 and much less in this custom package. We had the original seat completely rebuilt to be exactly as it was when new, which alone cost nearly $1,200. Truck does need a few things to get it completely over the "finish line" in our opinion. It needs door weather stripping, a speedometer cable, heater core, wiper blades (wipers work), a new temperature gauge in dash (temperature gauge always reads a little on the warm side when it isn't), a passenger arm rest and a driver sun visor. None of these things stop the truck from being a daily driver. This is a real "survivor," highly collectable truck that is a one year only body style with one of the most sought after motors that Chrysler ever built. This truck is REALLY FUN To Drive and there are even Facebook pages dedication to just this motor!
