Description:

1969 Dodge Charger

The 1969 Charger RT was purchased from a farmer in North Dakota 20 years ago. After getting it back on the road the car was driven weekly, unrestored, for around 16 years. A full restoration began four years ago and was completed at the end of 2022 by the owner.

The restoration process was documented on the For B Bodies Only website and is available for review. Included on the site are pictures of the fender tag and build sheet. Documentation for the car includes the build sheet, copies of previous titles, service manual and the PPG Ditzler paint code sheets.

The Charger has been back on the road since the end of 2022 and I have been enjoying it while fine tuning it. During this time I decided I liked a project car more than a freshly restored car, so I am putting it up for sale to start a new project.

Restoration

For complete details of the restoration visit the For B Bodies Only website, linked below. Pictures included are when it was purchased in North Dakota, before, during and after restoration. The goal was to keep it as stock as possible while making improvements to starting, tuning and braking. The car was in solid condition before restoration as can be seen on the build thread.

The Charger was striped and blasted. AMD sheet metal was used to replace the panels that needed to be. Many of the suspension parts were powder coated. The body was painted with PPG Deltron B5 blue and then clear coated.

Engine was rebuilt to stock specifications, except for a very mild cam. Machine shop noted it had not been rebuilt before. Engine was bored .030 over and the original crank, heads, and valve train were reconditioned and re-installed. The transmission and rear end were rebuilt since I have owned it.

When possible, many of the original parts (inside and out) were restored and reused. If the original parts weren’t in good condition, new parts were used. The air cleaner pie tin is not correct as they are not currently available.

Condition

Restoration was completed late last year and this Charger has been on the road for occasional drives since then. It is a 54 year old car and is not perfect; but it is fully functional and it starts and drives very well. There will be paint imperfections due to driving and not being done by a professional restoration shop. That said, a lot of time was spent preparing, painting and polishing, and this was not my first paint job.

In many of the pictures you can see yellow dust, such as on the seats. It is pollen season in Georgia!
