1968 Dodge Charger 2DR Hardtop 383ci 4 barrel

Custom General Lee – Dukes of Hazzard

Clear Title in Hand

This is not a replica, it is a custom General Lee built the way I wanted it. I wanted to be able to remove the decals and horn and just have a Charger. I purchased it after it had been sitting in a garage for years and at the time was last registered in 1991. The garage obviously kept it safe from the elements as the floors are all original metal and there is no rust in car, to include the rear window corners where there always is. I spent 3 years restoring it, but time to move on to something else.See photos, ask questions for details.

Body

The body was already primered and in great shape when I bought it. It needed very minor body work and showed no rust. I had it painted 1970 Chrysler Big Bad Orange because that is the color I liked.Though not a full rotisserie all lid pieces were removed and painted.

Exterior

Every trim piece, bumper, light, and grill was removed, cleaned, polished, repaired, painted, or replaced. I put a brand-new fuel tank, pump and sending unit in. I also added a front disc brake conversion kit that came with a new master cylinder, booster, and front shocks.

Interior

Almost every part was removed from the inside. The first thing I did was paint the floor, trunk and roof with a sealant of POR-15. The seats frames were sandblasted, all padding replaced, and re-upholstered with the same pattern as a true 1968, but in black and orange to match the paint scheme. The carpet, package tray and headliner are all brand new. Every part removed from the interior was cleaned, polished, repaired, painted, or replaced.

Engine

The VIN is XP29F8and the fender tag is present. Prior to my purchase someone had upgraded the engine to a 383 and it is stamped 2-18-69 showing it’s an early year before they made the switch. I replaced the intake and added a 4-barrel dual feed carb. I also upgraded the distributor and coil and added an electronic ignition box.

Transmission

The transmission is the A-727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic and was rebuilt in 2016.

Dash, Gauges and Odometer

I recently replaced the entire gauge cluster, which included a new odometer, with rebuilt OEM gauges. They were looking old and worn and the fuel gauge didn’t work which was frustrating. Now they all work besides the clock for some reason. But because of this the odometer shows 23 miles. I don’t believe it was accurate anyway because of the motor upgrade. The fan, heater etc works, but one of the controls knobs are broken. I will include a replacement. The AM radio appears to be original but there are no speakers installed so I don’t know if it works. The lights in the center console, map light, and dome light all work.

Overall

Overall this is a super solid car with an A+ paint job.As you can see in the photos the reflection is just amazing. It runs and drives great and starts on the first key turn. The stance is great with air shocks in the back for height adjustment.Tires and rims finish it off perfectly.Dixie horn is hooked up to the steering wheel horn and works great, but easily removeable. Not sure what cam is in it, but it sounds amazing. This is ahead turner, and you will not be disappointed!Vehicle is sold as-is with no promises made or implied. Buyer to arrange shipping ASAP after purchase as I need the garage space.I will include all boxes and receipts I have for parts I have installed, all service receipts and even throw in some Dukes memorabilia!
