1979 Dodge Other Pickups

The 1979 Dodge D150 Lil Red Express is the bold outlaw that got us hooked on sports trucks. So when you can find an example that continues to have strong V8 power and keeps all the distinctive details, you know it's the kind of pickup for those who love to drive their classic and turn heads doing it.

The Dodge boys were truly flying in the face of regulations as they allowed their cop motor to hit the streets. A loophole let it go into trucks, so they decided to be as bold as possible with their defiance. That's how you get a Canyon Red pickup with glossy oak wood bolted to the sides. And oh yeah, there are two gleaming vertical exhaust stacks extending above the roof line. But being a rebel didn't come cheap, and Dodge only sold around 5,120 in 1979 - the final year of this rare two-year offering. This example show a life of good care. It looks like there was a restoration around mid-way so the bold red paint still has a nice gloss. Plus, the special golden graphics have a crisp appearance as they coordinate with the real wood bolted to the bed. Also speaking of real wood, there's plenty more glossy lumber on the be floor. And with plenty of brightwork shining on the grille, chrome bumpers, upgraded side steps, and slotted mag wheels, it a total package that commands attention.

The interior is the ideal mix of pickup and performance, and the seat shows this off the best. You have a wide bench that can sit three across. But when the folding armrest is down, there is the kind of induvial comfort you'll find in the best muscle cars. This special seating has been upgraded to a comfy cloth, and that coordinates with the door panels, carpeting, and dash. There are other upgrades, but none of it takes away from the vintage atmosphere. You see it period-correct additions like the AM/FM/cassette stereo w/equalizer and the blind spot rear view mirror. And you get a grippy sports steering wheel that gives you an excellent view of the driver-oriented dash.

The legend of the Lil' Red Express is all about the motor, so it's great to lift the hood and see a stock-style presentation with many verified correct parts. In fact, it's believed to still have the original block. This is Dodge's might 360 cubic-inch cop motor that includes Super-Flow heads, dual air intakes, and a remanufactured large four-barrel carburetor. And yes, those vertical exhaust stacks really do give this a unique high-rise, high-performance soundtrack. More than just a mean V8, the whole presentation looks great. The A727 three-speed automatic is a stout unit, and it sends the power to a 3.55 limited-slip rear end. And this a nice all-around driver thanks to power steering and power brakes with discs up front.

Complete with maintenance records, this is the powerful outlaw that makes sure it knows how to arrive in style. Don't miss this deal, call today!
