1969 Dodge Charger R/T
After its exploits were memorialized during one of the most epic car chases ever filmed in the movie "Bullitt," this 1969 Dodge Charger R/T 440 and its kind became seriously coveted muscle cars, as legions of performance aficionados rushed to their local Chrysler Dodge dealership to put some of that 2-door, big car, big block muscle magic in their garages. This particular Charger Red beauty features a powerful 440 V8, great options, and a killer, unmistakable look that would even make Steve McQueen rethink his choice of wheels. The brilliantly bright Code R4 Charger Red paint this '69 wears is the same shade it left the factory with over 50 years ago, and a freshening up just a few years back has it looking very solid today. With its even texture and great shine, it really presents well and the relatively simple look of the rear Bumble Bee R/T stripe and minimal factory badging on the exterior allows the paint to really take center stage. It's not a perfect trailer queen, because it would be a crime if this tiger wasn't allowed out of its cage regularly, but it still has a very strong finish and is probably only a buff-and-wax away from being a dominant force on the regional show circuit. Although, a '68-'69 Charger doesn't really have to be this darn nice to garner attention (although we're very happy that it is!), because these years have curb appeal at just about every stage of preservation and/or level of restoration. From the signature split front grille with that red R/T badge all the way back to the trim surrounding the taillights, the chrome fittings look great, and clear glass trimmed-out with bright stainless surrounds the cabin. The bumpers fore and aft are bright and in really nice shape too, and we love that this Charger doesn't have a vinyl roof, because it means there's even more surface area for that red finish to do all the talking.
Climb inside and it won't take much imagination to picture yourself engaged in an epic pursuit of your own. The black vinyl interior is in great overall condition, with front buckets and a rear bench seat that show practically zero wear as they sit over an expanse of plush black carpeting. Between the buckets is a center console that sports a fresh woodgrain accent and puts the chrome shifter within easy reach of the driver. The assortment of factory gauges in the instrument cluster still work as intended and a supple looking, uncracked pad tops the dash area. Options include power windows, an upgraded Pioneer AM/FM/CD player in the factory dash slot (the radio is the only deviation from stock inside), and probably the best option of all: factory A/C. You'll certainly have no shortage of would-be passengers eager to ride in this classic and they'll be able to do so in comfort - the Charger sports plenty of real estate between its rows of seats. Raise the deck lid and you'll find the trunk area is adorned with a new reproduction plaid mat and also quite spacious even with a full size spare and jack set inside.
The iconic 440 big block V8 holding court under the hood looks awesome in its sharply badged air cleaner and bright orange block and valve covers and it sits surrounded by fresh-looking hoses, components, and properly routed wiring. Neatly detailed and ready to be shown-off, the engine bay is uber-clean and other than the conversion to R134a refrigerant inside the factory A/C system (Note: A/C needs to be serviced), everything has an OEM presentation. It fires up instantly and runs great, with a healthy lope at idle that sounds awesome, and the motor teams with a 3-speed automatic TorqueFlite transmission that shifts smoothly. The undercarriage is simply stunning, with neatly painted floor pans and axles, and a fresh H-pipe dual exhaust that sounds fantastic. Power front disc brakes and power steering are always a plus, and the rolling stock sits on a set of factory-style Magnum 500 wheels outfitted with 225/70/15 front and 275/60/15 BFGoodrich T/A white-letter tires that finish the classic look.
This 1969 Dodge Charger R/T 440 will afford some lucky enthusiast the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a truly iconic muscle car. It's priced right, and it won't last long. Call today!
