This Charger has just had the front suspension complete kit installed (>$1100.00 total; receipt for kit and then for installation in hand). I was driving it home from the shop yesterday, when the motor went from running great, to running rough with a repetitive Medium pitch metallic sound came from what sounded to me like the lower part of the motor. Sounds like possibly a rod bearing. Oil drained and no shiny metallic shards were noted in the oil. Just some tiny black specks. See pic of the oil changing pan. COUNT ON THE MOTOR BEING TOAST; IN NEED OF A COMPLETE REBUILD. THIS CAR WILL NEED TO BE TRAILORED HOME. It will start and run but additional damage will likely result. It has not seized up. I can try to upload my brief video of the motor briefly running on youtube, but again. Just assume the motor is in need of a total rebuild vs. replacement with a crate motor/other. This was a stock built 340 motor save for a previous owner putting in ; a smaller cam for more low end torque, I was told. Edelbrock 650 performer is on top of a stock cast iron intake manifold that has been altered from original dual plane to now single plane) from a previous owner. Has older headers on it to let it breathe easier, with 2 1/4" exhaust to turbo mufflers.
I have owned this car since late 2005, and have only put a little over 6,200 miles on it. (143,800---> 149,027). In that time I have: had the 727 transmission professionally rebuilt (1100.00 receipt in hand), the rear end has a complete 3.90:1 positive traction ring and pinion gear in it that I ordered new from Randy's Ring and Pinion (cannot find receipt), with Moser axles (receipt in hand), the 2 1/4" exhaust was replaced (receipt in hand) but connected to a set of headers I originally put on this car when I owned it the 1st time in 1993.
I purchased a new set of BF Goodrich 255/70/15s and put them on a set of 15 x 7 Police Wheels during my current ownership. Low miles on them now. Original 14" spare wheel and tire present in the trunk for aesthetic purposes only. The tire will not hold air.
Ramcharger hood is mostly complete, and works, but is currently set up to the carburetor, so is activated by vacuum at start up and deactivated by turning the engine off.
The body is straight. Thin body filler applied when the rear quarters were professionally replaced (receipt in hand) is cracking in 3 places on the driver's side.
Original cracked Dashpad has a nice aftermarket dashcap on it.
