1971 Dodge Charger R/T
For Sale: 1971 Dodge Charger R/TATTN: THIS IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION! You have found one of the finest, fresh and fully restored 1971 Dodge Charger R/T's on the planet. Ma Mopar only built 3118 Charger R/T's in '71 and only 332 of those were 440-4bbl/4 speeds TRACK PACK cars. A common survival % is thought to be 30%. That would make this car one of only a hundred or so left. Rare indeed. A full rotisserie restoration was completed and now has less than 1500 miles on it. I have Original Build sheet, window sticker, Bill Of sale, owners manual, warranty card, original showroom brochure, copy of orig title and few other docs that came with the purchase of the car in Sept 1971. I also have name and tel # of the gentleman who performed the restoration. The order number is a "special" order number as it starts with a "K" and an early one as its #00150. The car is in Galen Govier's (mopar Guru) database and he is not sure if it was a demo but does think its was some kinda special ordered car even though the fender tag has it as a sales bank car due to the "K" in the order number. I would first like to say that this car is truly an investment grade automobile and I don't use that term loosely like some here on Ebay. To qualify as "Investment Grade" it needs to meet a minimum of 3 qualifications. 1.) First and foremost-Desirability. Is a 1971 Charger RT desirable? Is the Pope Catholic? Check. It fills the same seat as the '67-69 Camaro holds for Chevy, the '67-70 Mustang holds for Ford, the '68-71 GTO and the '68-72 442 are a couple others that will ALWAYS be desirable. 2.) Originality. This car is restored per the codes on its fender tag (and orig build sheet) with only the Ram Charger hood and spoilers added for effect and while the orig block was windowed by orig owner in early '70's. It does still have its orig numbers matching hemi 4spd trans and Dana 60 3:54 rear. Its fall 1971 all over again for this car. Some people choose to ignore (at their own peril) the orig color of the car and paint the car in their favorite color. Whenever a person does this they "penalize" the cars COLLECTOR value the approximate cost of a complete new paint job to turn it back into its orig color. While the owner may prefer black when it comes time to sell it, all things being equal, he will always get more if its wearing its orig color as this car does. 3.) Quality of Restoration. While this is not a legit number 1 car (very few cars are) it is a very solid 2 and would not take much at this point to bring it up to number 1 status. Mostly just by removing the aftermarket parts and installing factory stuff (exh manifolds/valve covers). The paintwork cant get much better. It is truly show quality. The entire body was dipped and treated with a rust preventative coating inside and out then brought up from the bare metal with all PPG paint products. DP50LF epoxy primer, then blocked out with K36 and then K38 filler primers and sealed with an epoxy primer sealer and top coated with the correct DDC Bright white single stage paint and sanded and buffed to a mirror like sheen. This car has had a fresh, complete nut and bolt rotisserie restoration finished in 2012. Every nut, bolt, washer, fastener, latch, light hosing, trim piece, etc of any kind was removed and either replaced and/or restored, polished and reinstalled. All original parts were used where possible. The Ram Charger hood works like new and the car is a pleasure to drive. Suspension/brakes/wheels & tires: The leaf springs are orig, heavy duty multi leaf with original part numbers, new shocks on all 4 corners, all new brakes front and rear with stainless brake lines and all components inside rear drums were restored and painted. Power disk on front. All new brake hoses. New booster, master cyl and proportioning valve. Complete restored emerg brake cable setup, correct for 1971 only. Front suspension completely rebuilt with all new upper and lower bushings, sway bar bushings, tie rod ends and ball jts. The wheels are 15" REV Racing wheels and cooper cobra rubber. Also has new gas tank with stainless fuel lines and complete new exhaust system with 2-1/2" galvanized pipe with turbo mufflers. The car sounds like a big block Charger should. Interior: New dash pad, new carpet, new seat covers in orig pattern (with seat tracks restored), orig seat belts (correct 1971 version) and new headliner. The orig steering wheel and column were completely restored, inside and out as were both pedal assemblies and the emerg brake assy and Hurst shifter. All painstakingly painted the correct colors and textures. The heater box was disassembled and completely restored inside and out with new heater core. All gauges and switches work as they should inc tach and odometer. Orig AM radio. Engine/trans: Block is a D440 '68 bored .030 with a forged crank, orig #346 heads and orig intake. Engine has new rings and bearings installed. Comp Cams hyd cam 1 size up from stock and has a nice loping idle but still has plenty of vacuum for the brakes. New hi-vol oil pump with 55-60 psi at idle. Original numbers matching heavy duty radiator (#2998949) recorded as a 4 row with numbers matching shroud and correct 7 blade fan. Engine runs cool at all times. Stock distributor with Petronix module inside. Orig power steering box was completely gone thru and also has new pump and hoses. Orig 18 spline Hemi trans was completely gone thru and has new clutch, press plate and TO bearg. Car cruises at 70 mph on the freeway and will lay down a very long patch of rubber. This is a 1971 Dodge Charger R/T! It runs, sounds, smells, and drives like one because it is one!If you want something perfect with no maintenance, this car is not for you. If you want a GREAT driver with some tinkering still to be done, welcome home! REMEMBER! This is a NO reserve auction! Happy Bidding!Vehicle Details:
