FOR SALE 1917 Dodge Model 30 Touring, Chassis #134646, body # T130559, engine # 185719
Restoration of this totally rust free car was started in the Dallas TX area in the early 1970s. The car was in dry storage for over 40 years but little was actually accomplished. I would guess that, as often happens, enthusiasm faded.
I purchased the car in late 2016 from a man that bought it at an estate sale. He had the engine & transmission professionally rebuilt. New aluminum pistons (+.020"), new valves, & new Babbitt bearings. I had it transported to Ohio & began with vigor. I removed the head & oil pan & confirmed the new parts. I had the electric starter/generator, key switch, & starter switch rebuilt. I installed a new battery box, battery, & primary wires. Then installed all new brake linings, inside & out. Installed all new exhaust system. I had the original radiator checked & they sealed a couple minor leaks. I rebuilt the Stewart Warner fuel pump, fuel gauge, new fuel lines, & had the fuel tank boiled out.
I had the car repainted (3 coats of 2 part epoxy). I had new safety plate windshields made & had the windshield frames nickel plated. The car was driven occasionally in my neighborhood. Oil pressure is excellent but I noticed steering backlash was excessive. I rebuilt the steering box to minimize that.
Why is this Garage Queen for sale? On a recent drive around my block, the clutch throw-out bearing quit. There is, in effect, no disengagement of the clutch. I stopped it at home by turning off the ignition switch.
I recently turned 77 years old. I don't have the energy or interest to tackle a project that starts with the removal of the engine from the car. This was going to be the Summer that I took the car to an upholstery shop for seats & a top. Instead, that can be a project for the next caretaker.
Car is in Northern Ohio & has a clear Ohio title.
