Description:

1971 Dodge Challenger

This 1971 Challenger was parked in 1998 and I purchased it from the second owner's family. It is a factory Hemi Orange (EV2) car with a 318, automatic, front power disc brakes, power steering, AC, center console, black vinyl buckets, rallye wheels, 26" radiator, passenger mirror, and remote mirror. The AC equipment is still under the hood and it comes with 2 extra condensers. It was a fairly high optioned car for a small block. There is some rust on the driver floorboard and truck which need addressed, otherwise solid. No structural rust. The drivetrain looks original and I got her running well after 20 years of not driving with some basic maintenance. It doesn't really smoke much at all. I found hand written notes of mileage in a notebook going up to 160k, so I could guess that the shown mileage of 67716 mileage is actually 167716. It was last legally registered in 83'. Clean Tennessee title. Located in Knoxville Tennessee.
It spent the first portion of its life owned by a University of Tennessee fan. They had the front seats recovered with orange fabric to match the Hemi Orange external color. It was then sold to a guy in the early 80's and he drove it as a project car until 1998. During which time it was painted blue (Might be B5 blue) because he did not like the orange color. The door jambs, under hood, and trunk are still factory orange. It was then kept in the barn out back and rarely driven between 1998-2011 when that gentleman died deployed overseas in 2011. It comes with the original Tennessee plate that shows it was last legally on the road in 83' (Prior to me).
I was told by the family who sold it that it was literally parked in a barn since 1998 and they started it up occasionally (Quaint, I know). The car starts, runs, drives, stops, and steers. The brakes work well but the booster doesn't return the pedal after it goes down so you have to lift it with your foot (Takes some getting used to for sure). Also the tires are old provide a bumpy ride. After a new booster and tires, it should roll and stop perfectly. Additionally the cooling system doesn't hold pressure and I saw that the radiator needs fixed or replaced as it leaks. A few hundred dollars on Rock Auto and some time should get it to be a solid driver.
I have a clean title under my name for it. Comes with original keys, dealer paperwork, receipts, maps, etc. There are lots of good valuable parts on this car. The Fender tag and VIN match.

MECHANICAL:The car runs and drives fine. It starts very well.318 w/ 2bbl Engine runs really well. (I filled the tank with supreme gas and have been running that). The carb leaks and could use a rebuildA904 transmission (Based on the fender tag. I have not confirmed). Tyranny goes through Park, Neutral, Reverse, Drive, 2, 1. I haven't verified it shifts to third yet as I wanted to fix the brakes before I try that!I believe it is a 8 3/4 rear end, but please confirm yourself via the supplied photosRecent Oil ChangeNew BatteryNew starterNew battery cablesNew Spark plugsNew Fuel FilterMopar "Direct Connection" fuel pressure regulator valve is installed. Not sure if this was a dealer option or factory?Power steeringPower front disc brakes - I believe the booster is bad. The pedal goes down but does not return on its own. You can pull it back up with your foot and continue driving, otherwise it holds the brakes. I've driven it around the block. All AC equipment looks to be there, as it comes with 2 spare condensers which are the only things missing.Single Exhaust - Could use some new exhaust. The aftermarket muffler is rusty which causes some exhaust noise.Foot-operated pump for washer fluid was installed. Very unique setup. It has a coolant bottle full of washer fluid up in front of the radiator and the pump shoots it on the windowThe radiator needs repaired or replaced as it leaks coolant and the system won't hold pressure. I saw some coolant leaks from the block too so that may be a freeze plug.E brake works

BODY:Much of original undercoating is still presentPentastar still on front passenger fenderFloor rust on driver floorboard with some rust through, otherwise all floors look pretty solid. The trunk doesn't look too bad either. All original Vinyl top trimOriginal side body trimVinyl top MAY be original. Pretty rusty underneath and it has a soft spot on the passenger rear portion. Otherwise solid. There is some rust on the quarters and throughout the body. Please see photosSome minor dings/dents around. Please see photos.Antenna is installed and looks original.Original beauty ringsTires hold air and work fine but are old. Needs replaced.Comes with Original spare, hardware, and JackLighting works but seems wonky. It may just need bulbs. Even with the car off some lights are on so I leave the battery unhooked to not drain it.Rear Trunk Trim, Front Grille, Tail Light Trim all are complete and niceWheel lip moldings look goodHood hinge was replaced and comes with a spare. The hood needs a proper alignment.Driver door sags somewhat and must be lifted and/or slammed hard to close fully.Hood hinge was replaced and comes with a spare. The hood needs a proper alignment.
