1971 Dodge Challenger Deputy / Coupe very rare and very limited production - Motivated Seller
We have done some digging on the fender tag and confirmed that this is a very rare Dodge Challenger with the A93 Challenger Deputy / Coupe code, these were a low end and limited version delivered to the dealer, they were used as a base model enabling the new buyer to upgrade with the various options when purchased new.In 1970 they were called Deputy Challengers and in 1971 they were called Challenger Coupes. These Challenger Deputy Coupes came in 3 versions either a slant six, 318 or a very limited 383 version with only 17 made, this coupe was fitted with the 318 engine, Power Steering, disc brakes on front and auto trans. The other main features were the interior had Cuda seats and trim not Challenger,Coachman Grain steering wheel as fitted to the Cudas and the rarer option being that the rear windows were fitted, regulators deleted and slides bolted, the window cranks were deleted and factory plugs fitted in their place as can be seen on ours. The previous owner has upgraded the car with a 440 ci engine, factory power steering and fitted with a nice 727 auto trans, the color has also been changed to a really nice Bright Green with Gold Pearl and wow does it stand out with the Black R/T stripes.Correct Chin and trunk spoilers have been added as well as a new Old Look stereo, Green LED lights have been added to the low beam lights for that cool look at night. The car runs, drives and sounds great with really clean floors, this Challenger has been well looked after and with the A93 Code it makes this a very collectible Challenger.I have added some photos of the original advertising sheets and also "Sherriff Joe" did TV advertising back in 1970 and 1971 for the Challenger Deputy and the Challenger Coupe if you google him.Come and get yourself a really rare Challenger and see the attention it will get at a MOPAR Show - these Coupes are gaining a following with the MOPAR guys forming a registry for Deputy Challenger Coupes due to their very limited production. The vehicle is sold as is where is, the price does not include shipping, a $1000.00 non refundable deposit is required 24 hrs after the sale, sale price does not include taxes and fees dependent on the state your living in.Please feel free to ask questions and I can provide more pictures and videos if required thanks Mike 779 801 1305 and yes were open to offers

A93 Challengers. Who has heard of them!? Option code A93 was called the "Deputy" in 1970, and the "Challenger Coupe" in 1971. Starting in Mid-March, the Deputy Coupe was a lower-priced Challenger.

The Coupe had fixed rear windows: The window regulators were deleted, the tracks bolted in place, and a chrome cap covered the window crank hole on the rear trim panels. Instead of the wood grain steering wheel, the Coupes got the Barracuda Coachman grain steering wheel. And, since we were talking about interiors the other day, The A93 cars got the L6X9 and L6XW interior (notice on the picture of the interior, the door inserts are on the door, albeit without woodgrain).

These cars also had no Air Conditioning, day/night mirror, three speed wipers, dual horns and the cigar lighter were options (so was a Shaker hood in '71!).

Standard engine choices in '70 were the 170 and 198 Slant Six, 318, and both 383s, the latter 383 was only optioned on six A93 cars, split down the middle four-speed/auto. Road and Track tested a basic Challenger in 1971, that had the N-code 335 horse hipo 383, four speed, and a flat hood!

The '70 cars were ordered as a High line (JH23) then had the A93 option attached to it. Sales literature for the '71 mention a JL21 (which Chrysler has done with other product lines, such as Darts, and later, Volares and Aspens) VIN coding for the Coupe. There has been a handful of JL21 cars being documented as existing, but for the most part, the majority of '71 Coupes were ordered as High lines with the A93 package.

I'm looking for production numbers for '71s, but I know there was close to 1600 A93 cars built in '70.

Stay tuned, but here's some pictures of the sale literature, option codes, window delete plug, and a fender tag! --KFD
