1974 Challenger - 360 4bbl, 4-speed pistol grip
1974 Dodge Challenger
This is a motor numbers matching 1974 Challenger withRally Package & Factory A/C. It has the 360 4bbl motor/carb (Edelbrock) and Hurst pistol grip 4-speed transmission. An increasingly rare combination.
I have owned this car for the past 6 years and put about 3,000 miles on it. I was told when I purchased it that I am the third owner. This was my dream, and it is sad to let her go, but life has presented new opportunities and I know it's time she moved to a new home where she can be loved and appreciated.
Always stored under cover, the vinyl is in excellent condition and the paint is pretty good. There are a couple of chips that I have taken pictures of. The paint is starting the bubble in the regular spots, by the wheel wells. No bondo that I am aware of. No rust holes. Interior is great, there's a little wear on the drivers seat but that's it. Headliner is good
This car has never presented me with any trouble during the time I was driving it regularly but it has been sitting for a couple of years in a garage, but not driven often. The engine has had one rebuild on it that I am aware of. The previous owner installed a rear window defrost that I removed but I have the pieces for it. I also have the original orange air cleaner. The only piece that I know is not correct is the rear bumper, which came from a 1972 (doesn't have the 5 mph rubber bumpers on it). I wired it sort of temporarily for an amplifier in the trunk and installed a new head-unit and speakers. The amp wiring would be very easy to remove if you wanted. For the front speakerI routed the speaker wire over the dash because running it behind the dash meant drilling a hole and I have never drilled a hole or made any modification to this car. Kept as original as possible, always.
The passenger side door handle is sticky from the inside. The emergency brake light always stays on (emergency brake functions fine, it's just the switch for the light). And the middle console "button" is missing (can be opened if you stick something in it to push the mechanism). These are the only interior flaws that I am aware of. I'm letting you know these minor flaws so there are no surprises.
Clean title in hand. I am happy to work with any buyers to get it transported. The car will be shown on Vashon at this time. I don't have a safe place to keep it in Seattle and will not let it sit uncovered as it's waiting to be sold.I haven't seen another numbers matching 360/4-speed for salein a long time and I look pretty often. Never seen another one with this color combo. NADA Guides values at about $31K in average condition. That is a value that has increased about $4,000 just over the time I've owned it.
EDIT 1: I have had a full pre-sale inspection done on the car which has revealed some issues.
leaking valve cover gasket
leaking timing chain gasket
exhaust leak due to wearing on suspension components, rubbing on idler arm.
needs A-frame upper bushings and ball joints.
I will fully disclose all of the issues to a buyer. Here is a link to the pdf of the pre-sale inspection. She runs great but she needs some love for sure.

EDIT 2:
Oil pressure is reading low. Upon further inspection it's been revealed that the car is in need of new main bearings. I do not have an inspection report for this but a trusted Mopar familiar friend looked it over and this was determined. Also a paint blemish happened over the summer when gas leaked on the paint and was not cleaned up immediately. It is with a heavy heart that I have reduced the price to what it is, I just do not have the time or the enthusiasm any more to fix her up to her full potential and I need to let this dream go. Car will be sold as-is.
Notes: Like I mentioned, the car is kept on Vashon Island. I will not be driving it to Seattle to show it. Given the condition of the main bearings I am not going to risk any damage to an original engine like this, it will need to be picked up on the island. The $500 deposit is due within 24 hours and is non-refundable. Please besureyou want it before you buy it. This is the perfect car for a gearhead that wants something to work on to make into a beautiful original car, you won't find another one like it I promise.
