Description:
1969 Dodge A108 Van
1969 Dodge "Family Wagon" high top camper built by Traveco. It's got a 2 bbl. 318 with the 727 auto trans. Pretty much bullet proof.
I've had it for a couple of years now, I had a Dodge A 100 camper "camp wagon" also, but sold it when I found this one in Calif. as I liked the head room. As always, turned out it needed work. So, here's what I've done so far.
rebuilt the carbinstalled an electronic distributor including cap, rotor, wires and a 50K coilNew plugsNew drag linkNew Alternator along with an electronic voltage regulatorNew ignition switchInsulated the engine compartmentDid some Fiberglass work along the gutter and high top to seal it upDid some more epoxy work on the A pillar (above drivers door) as it was pretty ugly. Not structural ugly, but, needed to be filled and stop the rot. Door always, and still lines up with correct gaps and closes solid.Replaced both rear wheel bearings and seals as they were grinding away. While I was there, replaced the rear wheel bearings and brakes, along with new hardware kitsChanged the transmission fluid and filter and bought a deep sump pan that actually has a drain plug.Greased all the zirksChanged oil and filterChanged gas filtertires are decent, has a spare. I've got a ton of parts for it also, plus the workshop manual. It's an easy car to work on, and once you pull the cowling the engine is all there.
Car still needs work. The old point style regulator fused the points together and burned the wiring harness (thus the new ignition switch) and really screwed up the electrical. I've got the gas guage sort of working (goes in and out) and the water temp is working. Odometer cable is junk. Wiring needs to be gone thru.Lots of other little things. It's a project, thus the priceHas most of the original interior, though I have no idea why the color pattern, my wife calls it the "clown car". Anyway, that's usually the last issue. I try and get it driveable, then the cosmetics.
Probably missed some stuff here. Always the big question, can it be driven home/cross country? Honestly, I don't know, it's a work in progress, it still needs stuff, and it's a 50 yr. old classic. It's a personal call, I wouldn't, but, I'm just to old to possibly be on the side of the road these days. Did it plenty when I was a kid, and would turn a wrench in the dirt. Every time I replace/fix something, I run it down the road 10 miles or so, but, that's not cross country or sustained frwy driving.
Clear title.
As always. "Where is, As is"
I can store it for an agreed amt. of time, (after full pmt.) plenty of room
Almost forgot, it's on youtube
