HELLO. THIS AUCTION IS FOR THE COMPLETE BODY OF A 1970 DODGE CHALLENGER. ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, AND OTHER COMPONENTS THAT MAY APPEAR IS NOT PART OF THIS. WITH THAT SAID WHAT YOU WILL GET IS A 1970 CHALLENGER THAT STARTED LIFE WITH A 383hp ENGINE. THE MATCHING BLOCK (VERY WELL SEASONED) GOES WITH THE CAR. THE DASH WAS SWAPPED OUT YEARS AGO WITH ONE FROM A BARRACUDA THAT HAD AIR CONDITIONING. IT COME ORIGINALLY WITH THE RAYLLE PACKAGE. THE BODY IS STRAIGHT HOWEVER THE FLOORING AND SHELVES AROUND THE WINDOWS ARE RUSTING. DOOR GLASS ON BOTH SIDES ARE THERE AND ORIGINAL AS ARE THE REAR SIDE GLASS. THE BACK GLASS IS OUT BUT GOES WITH THE CAR. THE WINDSHIELD WAS BROKEN YEARS AGO BY SOME CURIOUS PERSON WHO TOOK IT UPON HIMSELF TO VIEW THE 392 HEMI THAT I ONCE HAD IN THERE WITH A FOUR SPEED TRANSMISSION.
THE CAR WAS ORIGINALLY AN AUTOMATIC CONSOLE CAR, AND NO I DID NOT BUTCHER THE K-MEMBER TO FIT THE HEMI. IT ADAPTED TO A SMALL BLOCK BELL WITH A MODIFIED ORIGINAL HEMI FLYWHEEL TURNED DOWN TO ACCEPT A S/B STARTER RING. AN ORIGINAL HEMI BELL SPACER, AND IT WAS DONE. THE CLUTCH PEDAL WAS REMOVED AND THE ORIGINAL AUTO SHIFTER WAS PUT BACK INTO PLACE.
WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A SLANT 6, THIS CAR HAS HOSTED ABOUT EVERY V8 ENGINE THAT MOPAR HAS MADE FROM THE 273-440. THE GOOD POINT OF THESE OLD MOPARS PRIOR TO ABOUT 1973 OR SO IS THAT A CHANGE OF THE MOTOR MOUNTS MADE IT POSSIBLE TO CROSS FROM BIG BLOCK TO SMALL BLOCK OR VICE VERSA.
OVER THE YEARS MOPAR VEHICLES BECOME MY VEHICLES OF CHOICE MOSTLY BECAUSE A GEAR REDUCTION STARTER COULD MAKE THOSE WORE OUT ENGINES START EVEN IN COLD WEATHER WHEN FORDS AND CHEVIES WOULD LEAVE YOU STRANDED.
I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN 1976, AND AS FAR AS I KNOW WAS THE SECOND OWNER OF IT THOUGH I'VE NEVER WENT THAT FAR IN FINDING OUT. I DO KNOW THAT THE MILEAGE ON THE ODOMETER WHICH IS LESS THAN 42,000 IS CORRECT FROM WHERE IT WAS WHEN I PURCHASED IT. THE CAR HAD AROUND 33,000 OR SO WHEN I PURCHASED IT AND AS IT WAS NOT MY MAIN MEANS FOR TRANSPORTATION IT BECOME MY TEST CAR FOR DIFFERENT ENGINE PROJECTS. FROM 1982 ON THIS CAR DROVE THE STREET ONLY TO TEST DIFFERENT MOPAR COMBINATIONS. THIS WAS MY MENTAL THERAPY FOR PTSD WHICH WAS THE RESULT OF SPENDING 18 MONTHS IN VIETNAM. I DIDN'T SEEM TO FIT THE LIFE I LEFT, AND COULD NOT GET INTO LIFE THE WAY IT WAS OR SEEMED TO BE WHEN I COME HOME, SO AS OPPOSED TO DURGS OR ALCOHOL I BURIED MYSELF INTO BUILDING MORE PERFORMANCE FROM ENGINES, AND THAT BECAME MY WAY TO COPE.
