1949 Dodge Coronet Coronet

This car was purchased by me for my father in 2002 he lives in Europe but has always had a great interest for classic 50's era cars. At the time he was sick and I hoped that buying this car would help him get his mind off his treatment. It did just that. He became so excited of the possibility of driving the car from Georgia (where the car was) to Ohio (were we reside). He spent hours reading about the fluid drive etc. Although the car ran and stopped the engine was tired. It was completely rebuilt in Georgia. Dad got better and we accomplished the journey from Georgia to Ohio stopping to visit some of his old friends along the way. Since then we have restored at least one item every year. First thing was the wiring to the transmission. Someone had not taken the time to hook it up correctly yet it still made it all the way here. All transmission wiring was replaced and it has since then shifted as its supposed too. Numerous other items have been replaced or fixed. Some of the items are:Engine rebuilt 2002Brake lines replacedBrakes replacedNew interior and carpetNew side glassNew door panelsRepainted wood grain on the doorsNew front shocksRadiotor rebuilt
Since the car has been in Ohio my father and mother have visited once or twice a year and the Dodge was used during those weeks. It never let them down as they explored OHIO, PA and WV.I am surprised how reliable this car has been. It stays in storage, occasionally cranking it and driving it until the next time they visit. The joke in the family is that Dad comes for the Grand Childre, The Dodge and then to visit me and my wife.
Unfortunately time passes and the grand children have gotten older and Dad is slowing down somewhat. He decided this fall after his visit that it was time to sell the Dodge. So the truth about the car,The car is not a 10 but we have tried to maintain it so that it would always be ready to go.The paint is probably a 7 the mechanicals an 8-9. Fluids where changed yearly regardless of mileage and the car has always been stored inside. It has not been on the salty roads. The undercarriage has some surface rust and there is some rust bubbling on the bottom of the doors. There is also some rust bubbling starting at the point where the rear bumper and the body meet. All side glass has been replaced but the front windshields have not. One has what we think evidence of a BB gun chip. The rear window is good. There are some small screw holes on the left and right side of the front vent windows. Previous owner had added very ugly rearview mirrors from some 70's product car. There is a small hole in the dash where they had added a manual choke which it didn't need after we rebuilt the engine. All gauges work with the exception of the temperature gauge. A small after market gauge was added under the dash.We put about 10000 miles on it since 2002.
The car is heavy but keeps up with interstate traffic but won't win any speed records of the line. The fluid drive is an interesting item. The car has a clutch so you use it to put the car in low or high gear from there you accelerate to 25-30 MPH let go of the gas and the transmission shifts to the higher gear. Once you stop there is no need to push the clutch the transmission down shifts automatically. It is still the original 6 volt battery system and works fine.
Now the disclaimers. There is no warranty on the car. If you purchase it is as is. Shipping is NOT included. The car is located in the Columbus OH area. Currently in storage. If you purchase it I will show you how to drive it if necessary.
