I am helping a friend sell this flawless 1968 Dodge Coronet. Just as a matter of reference, I have been judging cars at all types of show levels for over 25 years and have extensive experience in restoration of many marques. I am extremely picky and probably grade more on the lower side when evaluating vehicles. I would consider a 10 on my scale to be a Concour Quality vehicle, just so you have a reference. This example is collector quality restoration and is in #1 condition from my perspective. Other than the fact that the odometer reads 42K miles you would believe this car had zero miles if you were physically present to place your eyes on it. My friend Jim is a long time car collector and is only selling because he recently purchased his "dream" Max Wedge car. His brother was involved in the engine/performance upgrades and is a well-known and highly respected 30 year car builder (Mopar guy) here in San Clemente.

This is a rather amazing one-lady owned San Diego Coronet from 1968 to 2003. Over the last three years the car has gone through a complete ground-up restoration of its rust-free original chassis. The car was an outstanding low mileage survivor car that made for a really great candidate for a drivetrain performance upgrade into a muscle car.

MOTOR & DRIVETRAIN

The original 318 V8 was swapped out six-months ago for its current 383 Magnum V8. It has been equipped with all the "show'n go" parts (see list above) to make the proper muscle car impression when the hood is raised. These 383 motors were known to be bullet proof and this one was rebuilt with less than 500 miles clocked. The distinctive engine note is broadcast by brand new headers and dual exhaust system. This little 383 rocks. The transmission is all recently rebuilt and shifts crisply, just as it should.

Driving this car is just like jumping in a brand new Dodge at the dealership in 1968. The car runs down the road straight as an arrow at 70 or at 100 mph. She purrs along with authority. Brakes are all brand new and have dramatic stopping power.

PAINT & BODY

The body on this Southern CA born Coronet is perfectly straight and appears to be bondo free. I can find no evidence that it has ever been in an accident. Take a look at the close up pictures down the sides and door gaps. The body panels on this car are as good as it gets, just check out the shut line pictures all the way around the car. Cast your eyes on the pictures of the rear quarters inside the trunk. There was just a small amount of surface rust under the trunk liner and it was stripped and epoxy coated to keep rust out for good.

The Paint was done in 2013 and is smooth and glossy and matches from panel to panel perfectly. It is a two stage paint and is a very strong 9.8 out of 10 on the quality scale. There is zero unsightly overspray anywhere, this was a windows out, doors, hood and truck off type of paint restoration.

There are zero dings, scratches or imperfections on the entire body. The chrome looks to be a solid 9.5 out of 10. Wheels and tires are all brand new and add to the muscle car stance and look.

INTERIOR

The Coronet Bench Seat Style Interior was completely restored, covered in luxurious black vinyl. Seat upholstery, door panels, carpets and headliner are all brand new (Legendary) and present with no rips, tears or problems. This is not those cheap china made interiors, this is high quality all the way. The seats were obviously rebuilt when they were recovered, giving a nice firm feel and support. Door armrests, window cranks and door handles are all new to the build. Also, note all rubber and window felt was replaced during the restoration.

The Panasonic AM/FM CD Stereo works perfectly and sounds amazing thanks to brand new speakers front and rear. There is a new dash circuit board and gas gauge, along with a new sending unit. There are new front and rear marker lights and mirrors on the car as well.

UNDERCARRIAGE

The Undercarriage has all of its original floors and not a sign of rust anywhere. The original undercoating is almost completely intact and shows-off the dry San Diego life it has lived. Almost everything has been replaced to the front end and other suspension components. This is a clean as you are going to find on a very original car.

Here's the thing. There are all kinds of cool cars out there to buy. A lot of them just look good in pictures and when the car arrives you have major work to do. This little Coronet is DONE... nothing to do but get out and drive this thing anywhere your mind can take you. I would not hesitate to get in this thing tomorrow and drive it to Maine and back.

Everything works., there are no leaks, no old bulbs in the dash, no electrical issues. The motor runs seamlessly with an exhaust note that will get your motor going every time you crank her up. This little Dodge was put together buy a couple of car "freaks" that know what they are doing and spent the money to take a very nice survivor car to a brand new show level.

This car is an excellent car to take to local type shows. This is a car that is not a huge investment, that drives and runs just like the more expensive examples of the exact same car, thanks to the upgrades to the drive-train, suspension, exhaust and wheel package.
