1960 Dodge Seneca V8 Finned Wagon Original Survivor
1960 Dodge Other Station Wagon
This is a rare original survivor unrestored 1960 Dodge Seneca station wagon. This wagonruns and drives great, and shows as apresentable straight rustfree original, or you canchoose to restore it as you enjoy it and bring it back to a like new car! Either way, it is a car that you can enjoy driving now.
The caris unusually well equipped for the entry level Seneca wagon, with a stunning color combination of white top, red body, and a cool smoky grey metallic and lighter grey interior. It has the 318 V8, Torque Flite 3 speed automatic, Power Steering, Sparkle Steering Wheel, Padded Dash, and AM radio. It also wears period after market seat belts.
The Seneca runs and drives great. It runs smooth and shifts well (the transmission was rebuilt about 8-9 years and 800 miles ago). Other significant work performed over the 9+ years that I have owned the car includes new dual exhaust, strut rod bushings, idler arm bushing, carburetor rebuild and gas tank repair. The Seneca runs great, but it does smoke a bit primarily on start up. The only mechanical issues that I am aware of are that the brakes often grab when I first move the car after starting (they free up and operate smoothly and properly once I am driving but should be checked)and the brake light switch needs to be replaced as the brake lights just recently stopped working. The car has the windshield washer option (bag and floor control are present) but it does not work.
The interior of this car is in very good shape. The front and back seats are in very good condition other than a fairly large tear in the driver seat cushion; the back seat looks like it may have been very rarely used!. Door panels are great, but the front door armrest pads are deteriorated (the plasticarmrest bases appear to be fine, and the rear armrests are in very good shape). The dash padhas some cracks and age separation, but overall it is all very presentable, and the original correct rubber floor mat is in very good condition. And the awesome atomic age design dash lights and looks great! Underneath the floor mat, the floors have surface rust but with none of the typical rust through. The cargo area is amazing, with its original linoleum and rubber panels in very good condition. The mat in the rearcompartment underneath is in good shape, but under the mat has typical corrosion, and there isno jack or spare tire. The original board headliner is not sagging or broken. All windows go up and down fine, but the tailgate window is stiff, it should probably be adjusted or lubricated. The Seneca has its original radio, but it is not connected (and the antenna was removed) so I don't know its operating condition.
The body on this Seneca is also in very good, very rust free straight and solid condition. The lack of rust is really exceptional. I can not find any rust through or rust repair on the body, not even under the headlights, or at the base of the fenders. It is incredibly clean and straight and dry. However, the hood and right front fender and doors have been repainted some time ago and have some fading, age crazing and some minor peeling, and there are minor chips, scrapes andbumps on the body, as can beexpected of a nearly 60 year old original car. I replaced the after market gas cap with a correct gas cap, but it is still in primer. To me, it is all a very presentable original driver. To someone else, it may be an easy minor repair and partial or full repaint of an original rust free car. This car is wearing its original white over red paint, other than the areas mentioned. So keep it original, or improve...?
Overall this is such a nice original presentable car... not perfect, but a great original with original patina, and a great driver that I have enjoyed for weekend drives. So it makes a great car to enjoy and show while improving those things that you choose to improve. Or for a very manageable winter project to make it a show car! Either way, it is a really cool, really rare, very original finned wagon! This is probably the most original, rust free, running and driving 1960 Dodge wagon that you will find! You will love driving this wagon with the view of the fins soaring above the rear fenders!
Note that in the last few exterior photos, the Seneca is wearing larger wheels and tires. The original wheels are 14 inch, with 215/75 tires; the larger performance wheels are 15 inch, wearing 225/70 tires front and 255/70 tires rear. The Seneca is being sold with its original wheels only; the oversized performance wheels and tires may be purchased separately.
I have described the Seneca as best I can, but please inspect the photos and ask any questions, as the Seneca is being sold in 'as is' condition. I have clear title in my name and that will be transferred after payment in full funds clear. The bidder is entering a contract to buy the car, not to inspect, and the buyer is responsible for any and all transport costs. I can keep the Seneca in my garage for a reasonable period of time (up to a month) after it is paid for, while transport arrangements are made by the buyer. The car is available locally and therefore the auction may end at any time. A $500 non refundable deposit is due within 24 hours of auction end, with payment in full in cash or bank cashier check within seven days of auction end.
