'74 DODGE DART SPORT – RUNS GREAT – Entry Level A-Body Driver Project
1974 Dodge Dart
Yes, this Dart Sport is being auctioned as is, but we're proud members of Chrysler Performance West (cpwclub.com), and we wouldn't sell a steering wheel, let alone a whole car, without representing ourfellow club members and the Mopar community with integrity.
(For that mater, nor would we put a vehicle on a car carrier with a box of cat litter in the footwell.)
This '74 Dodge Dart Sport may be at the tail-end of '66-74 collectibility, but its A-Body Duster/Demon heritage is sought after now more than ever. This is a one-family car, driven nearly daily ever since itwas purchased. It has also been maintained and kept on the road by the same Los Angeles mechanic for the past 19 years. It was purchased new in 1974 as a gift from father to daughter. This samedaughter has been dedicated to putting her available funds into everything but the car's appearance.
And to that we say - so what? It's a Mopar. It belongs at the same shows as the Chargers, the Satellites, Roadrunners, Furys, and even the Barracudas and Challengers. We know we're not alone in that kindof appreciation, which is why we took a closer look when a friend of the now elderly owner asked us to find a buyer who'd give a damn. We figured, what the hell? Let's see what it does - or doesn't do.
2017maintenanceincludes, but is not limited to: new tires, neutral safety switch, ball joints, coil, distributor, wires, re-cored radiator, new transmission and motor mounts, alignment,U-joints replaced, new wiper motor assembly...and more. Receipts to accompany the sale.
These days, too many big bank account buyers are seeking only completed projects and trailer queens. They outnumber hobbyists and young people looking to take on restorations. There are precious few remaining Dodges and Plymouths to restore. This has forced newcomers and veteran builders alike to take second, third, and even fourth glances at what used tobe the less desirable Mopars. So this one's for those folks - fellow Mopar enthusiasts who feel like they've been priced out of worthwhile restoration opportunities.
Bidders in search of an entry level Mopar that can be driven and enjoyed to and from the shop will want to give this one some serious consideration.
Nope - this Dart Sport is never gonna be a 340 Duster or Demon. Tothose who recognize a coupe, or "post car," however, that offers a higher degree of unibody strength and capacity for quarter-mile torque - it could be something great.
It'll be up to you -the winning bidder- to decide whereto target those restoration dollars.
We hope this will go to a first time Mopar buyer who'd rather be in the hobby rather than looking at it from the outside, but we're confident it'll eventually go to someone who "gets it."
We dig questions, so bring 'em on.
Happy bidding and Mopar or No Car.
