Though Italian, there are American connections. The Ghia design firm gave the project to Tom Tjaarda who was American-born, and the engine that powered the Pantera was Ford's 351 Cleveland! When they came to America they were sold through Ford's Lincoln-Mercury dealers, completing the tie-in. The current owner purchased this Pantera... in 1984 and has owned for 35 years. Before that, the original owner purchased it new in 1972. The 2nd owner purchased in 1975. In 1982 it was purchased by it's 3rd owner. It was nicely optioned with Power Windows, Power Brakes, and Air Conditioning. It also has European Chrome bumpers - not the black rubber ones. It had 27,000 miles on the clock when it was purchased in 1984. Since being purchased in 1984, the car has always been stored indoors under a car cover, sometimes sitting idle for long periods without being driven. In 2012 a piston ring broke. No damage was done to the cylinder or piston, but the entire motor was rebuilt. A full break-in and tuning was done by Scott Gunderman Performance in Indianapolis. An MSD ignition was added at that time. The rebuilt engine has 1500 miles on it. The early Pantera's were rushed into production and had some reliability issues including overheating, vapor lock and inadequate braking. The current owner took pains to address these issues. Overheating improvements - An aluminum radiator replaced the original brass radiator - 3 improved electric radiator fans (2 push, 1 pull) replace the 2 original fans - An improved plate with larger hole in the middle sits just under the thermostat to improve co0lant circulation from the engine to the radiator. Vapor lock fix - The original Autolite carburetor and intake manifold were replace by a Holley 650 carb and an Edelbrock intake. This resolved the vapor lock issue. Braking upgrade - Improved brake rotors and 4 piston Wilwoods on all 4 corners allow the the car to stop properly now. Other bits: - Entire car repainted in red lacquer in 1983.- Gas tank was replaced in 1986. - The MSD ignition has replaceable rev limiter chips. It's currently chipped at 5000 rpm since the engine was overhauled. - 1987 New Steering rack and tie rods - 2007 New clutch, Brake master cylinder Vehicle comes with original magnesium wheels. Additional set of Campy clone wheels and tires available for purchase separately. Comes with two sets of keys, owners manual, technical manual and many records. Original intake, shift knob, ac compressor and lines, and other misc parts.
