Description:

1951 DeSoto

I just realized that I mistakenly listed this car as a Chrysler. This car is a Desoto, and not a Chrysler. These era Chryslers and Desotos were pretty much the same cars with different trim. Sorry for the mixup. You can't get any good help these days.
Very solid and good driving transplant from California. This 51 Desoto wagon was built a couple years ago. The flathead six is history, and replaced with a late 70's bullet proof Dodge 318 with the Mopar 904 automatic transmission. The front has been sub framed with a Chevy S-10, which gives it much more responsive power steering than the old Chrysler steering box. The rear differential is a 10 bolt GM setup. Brake are GM disc front and drum rear. Wheels are stock steel GM with new tires front and rear. It also has a new steel gas tank, and new aluminum radiator.
Although thin and missing in spots (we call this patina) the paint appears to be original. Hey! original is what everybody wants now! The good old USA made body and floors are very solid. The interior was completely redone. The original sofa like seats have been reupholstered. New headliner installed. The rear cargo area has been fitted with finished Birch paneling. The door panels and dash also received refurbishing.
Here is a car that you can just go on a country drive and stop for gas or lunch and usually have someone start a conversation with you about, or take it to local car shows or cruises and have people, many times show more interest in, than the high dollar checkbook car parked next to it.
I am selling this car for the owner who built it. He is an very talented fabricator, and did all the work on this car himself, including the interior. I am sure you will probably have questions because my description does not go into a lot of detail. He will be glad to answer any questions.
Sorry, in the luggage rack and items in it shown in photos are no longer with the car.
Please call Bobby @ 502-680-3120 If you hit the ask question button in the listing, it will delay your answer because I will probably have to call him for the answer, then relay it to you.
