This is a 1970 Datsun 1600 (SPL311) with a NissanKA25DE and 5 Speed swap from a 1991 240SX.I cruise in it at 85 no sweat and will go well over 100mph. . . I haven't had the balls to take it much over that (on a closed course obviously. . . sheesh)
I'll describe everything about the car (I know). I want to be as honest as possible.
The good.I have a ton of receipts, ocuments.
KA24DE 2.4 liter Nissan with 5 speed (doubles the HP on the 1600?) came from a 1991 240SX - I believe this swap only has about 3800 miles on it. That's what the current gauges read and I'm let to believe that is how many miles this current set up has on it.
New timing chain, ensioner and guides kit (1500 miles ago) Engine runs quiet.
Timing and tune is set to 180 degree operating temp.
New thermostat puller fan (runs at 180 degrees in traffic)
New painless wiring harness.
Dash is a custom aluminum 67 style with Custom white gauges with a leather dash and surround (one piece)
Miata seats (with the speakers in the headrest). New seat covers.
Remote Oil Filter Set up.
New ball joints
New Nismo Vintage Sport spec springs (850lb lowers 1.5")
New KYB shocks
Rear springs dearched to lower 1"
New H4 headlights
New amber fog lights
New tail lights
New Tonneau Cover (never installed)
New Volvo big brake 4 pot caliper upgrade
Stainless Steel Brake Lines
New Interior windshield trim.
Spare Exterior windshield chrome and seal
Roll Bar
spare fuel rail and injectors
spare ecu
Bluetooth radio with USB jack
Battery in the trunk
Original Jack included
Vintage Performance Australian madewheels (AustralianWatanabe or Mini Lite)with nearly new tires.Lots of documented receipts.Car was stripped and painted in the last 10 years it seems (I have pics but no real details) I have not found any rust anywhere.
The bad.
Paint is a 5 Footer - There's some chips here and there along with some superficial dents. I might have the dent doc come and have at em. As a driver, ommuter or city car it's perfect. - It's not a clunker but it's not a garage queen.
No heat. The heater box and blower have been removed. This doesn't bother me. It never really needed it. The cowl vent works and has a driver and passenger down vents with the open close flap functional and in place. In California I've never missed the heat. But my wife begs to differ.
Soft top is on but the snaps are not installed. New snaps included. If I get a chance I will install the snaps the best I can. Works fine and keeps the water out.
Though the brakes have been upgraded the brake master is the tiny original and you need a strong leg to use the unboosted manual pedal. This is typical of all Roadsters. If you stomp on it yes, he car will skid to a stop.
Sadly no LSD. This is the one thing I really wanted to do. A 80's RX7 is the common upgrade.
The car is a blast to drive and surprises everyone by it's speed and how hard it pulls. I would estimate the car weighs about 2050lbs and has about 170hp in it's current tune.
Why sell? This is my third convertible in the garage and 6th car in the garage. I need to finish up my Ford Cortina project and as you know... a happy wife makes a happy life. I actually had some big plans for this car and wanted to take it up to the PNW and B.C. this year for a couple events.
It has a great body for anyone wanting to restore the car... But I would say this is a car for someone who really wants to drive the piss out a cool vintage Japanese roadster. With a modern(ish) fuel injected motor and the extra power it makes it a start and drive daily and don't give a !#%# car. But like any old car it will always need a little TLC, nowledge of mechanicals and a understanding that it's not stock and made up of parts from a modern car put into play on a vintage chassis or someone who wants a JDM, peedhunters project.
