1978 Datsun Z-Series

I bought this car in 2008 from the original owner who lived in Phoenix, Arizona. It is an original accident-free numbers matching survivor car. This rare classic has spent its entire life in the Phoenix metropolitan area. This is the dry desert southwest – little rain, no ice, no snow, no salty roads. And that means NO RUST! The car was bought new at ABC Datsun, Phoenix, Arizona, in 1978.
In the 15 years I have owned this car, I have kept it 99% original. The car has never been taken apart and restored. However, it has been carefully preserved and renovated where needed. Any items that needed attention were always repaired with OEM NOS parts. And anything unoriginal can easily be converted back to original.
My goal for this car was to carefully preserve it to be an attractive and reliable original survivor that can be driven and enjoyed. It is NOT a perfect frame-off restoration to show at Pebble Beach. So please keep that in mind.
This car will come with a large binder of every receipt and/or repair ever done while in my possession. Way too much to list. But here is a quick overview:
Exterior - Never wrecked, no accidents. Original color is “Silver Metallic.” Datsun paint code 306. Original owner had it repainted in 2007. In 2022 paint was refreshed with a professional color sand and now looks excellent, but does have flaws and rock chips. Most dings removed by PDR. Sheet metal and body side molding original, clean and straight. Both bumpers re-chromed. Original Nissan windshield and original NOS wiper blades.
Interior - Almost perfect! Original dash with NO cracks! Worn seats were redone in Ferrari black leather with Hampton perforations. They retain original look but are much nicer. Original AM/FM Hitachi stereo.
Engine - Professionally sealed and repainted. New motor mounts. New clutch, pressure plate, etc. Radiator recored.
Fuel Injection - All new OEM NOS fuel injectors and wiring.
Wheels - Dealer installed RARE “Black Pearl” alloy wheels with NOS center caps. Four brand new expensive Vredestein Sprint Classic tires. These tires are premium quality, V speed rated and Hunter Road Force® balanced! The car drives straight, smooth and corners great!
Trunk - Original spare and equipment.
Brakes – New rotors and disc pads. New rear wheel cylinders.
Suspension – New wheel bearings. Driveshaft professionally rebuilt and balanced. All new U-joints, etc. All new struts. All new bushings, spindles and mounts in rear.
This 280Z is nicely optioned with a factory 5 speed, factory AC, factory AM/FM Hitachi stereo and dealer installed RARE Nissan “Black Pearl” alloy wheels.
The car also comes with its original ignition key, original factory service manual, original owner’s manual and original warranty-service booklet. I will also include lots of spare parts and extra floormats.
This car needs nothing. All the fluids are fresh. It is licensed, registered and insured. It is reliable, safe and of daily driver quality.
Best of all, this classic sports car runs excellent and looks great! Silver paint with a black interior is among the most timeless color combos ever conceived! Wherever it goes, it gets lots of attention. And lots of thumbs up!
You or a proxy should conduct a pre-purchase inspection of this vehicle to make sure it meets your expectations. My binder of receipts which document this vehicles renovation and preservation will be available for review. With that being said, this is a 46 year old vehicle. It is being sold as-is and has no warranty. I am always available to answer any and all questions.
