Overview
This is a Series 1.5, which is unique among many of the other 240z's out there. Some of the OEM components on the car are series I such as the center console. Other stock parts, such as pillar emblems are Series II. This is the way the car came originally.
Ownership
I am the 4thowner of the car. This car comes with much documentation. Below is the information on the history of the car from original sale. Included is the original owners manual and warranty booklet with the original owners card, which shows sales date.
For privacy I am not listing full names, but I do have that information and will provide to the buyer.
a.)Mr. "E" bought the car new, in Houston Texas in 1971.
b.)Mr. "E" sold/transferred title of the car to another Houston native Mr. "W" in 7/23/83. I was told these two were either father/son or uncle/nephew. Documentation clearly shows both these person had access to the vehicle and performance maintenance on it from 1971 forward. Mr. "W" experienced some issues with the car around 1989-90. Mr. "W" decided to sell the car after it sat idle for a year or two waiting to get repaired.
c.)Mr. "W" sold the car to Mr. "B" (who I eventually purchased the car from). Mr. "B" bought the car on 1/07/92. At this point the car the car still had the same mechanical issue that prevented Mr. "W" from driving it. Mr. "B" purchased the car with intent to "fix the issues." Mr. "B" told me the engine was thought to be the problem and thus the project sat for almost 20 years virtually untouched.
d.)I bought the car from Mr. "B" on 10/21/20. Prior to the sale, he had someone work on the car to get it to crank…barely. I began restoring and refreshing it from bumper to bumper. Long story short, it turned out the engine was fine, although it has been completely overhauled. The issue was the carburetors. New, OEM carbs by Z therapy were purchased and installed. I have a copy of the title transfer showing Mr. B. the then owner when I purchased the car.
Original Mileage
Documents include copies of receipts for maintenance many showing dates and mileage of car. I will include some of these images with personal information blotted out. Many of the documents, such as tire changes and periodic maintenance catalogue the mileage of the car at different intervals. One document shows the original mileage on 7/14/88 was only 26,883 miles. On 9-28-88 the records show the car with 27,615 original miles on it. The most recent document I have is from 11/20/90 which is the timeframe I was told the car had mechanical issues keeping if off the road. I went to Mr. "B"s house and saw the old barn where the 240z had sat parked. When I got the car from Mr. B it had approximately 33,500 miles on it. It would crank and start when I purchased it, but would run only for a matter or seconds before dying.
Paint
The 918 body paint is not super professional show quality. Instead I would say it is a good grade. I have been stopped by many people passing by to look at the car. If you are up close there are small, minor imperfections in various areas but you usually have to be very close to the areas to see them. I have a pint of paint used with paint codes comes with car sale.
Stereo
A CD stereo has been added with 4 speakers. 2 are in the back of car and removable. Other 2 speakers are in front floorboards on each side of cars kick panel. A custom kick panel was installed for these speakers. Antennae is new with toggle switch in shifter console. When you turn the volume up there is feedback/crackling, so it will need re-wired. I will guarantee the speakers and stereo are not the issue.
ENGINE
The engine was professionally rebuilt by an engine specialist who has been in business for over 30 years. There is approximately 500 miles on the newly rebuilt engine. I would say the engine is highlight of this car. It is in mint condition and totally restored and refreshed. It runs amazing and would make a great daily driving car. Even at 100 mph the car has plenty of power left. The L24 block is stamped with a VIN, which matches the engine numbers shown on the chassis plate and window sticker. The head is the original E31. The alternator was replaced with a 280zx upgraded model that has internal voltage regulator. This will give you plenty of extra power for the stereo or whatever else.
Transmission
The transmission was also inspected and re-freshed. A new pressure plate, disc and bearing was installed in 2022. Other new items installed at this time were the clutch throw-out bearing sleeve collar and a Fidanza Lightweight Aluminum Flywheel. Car shift wonderfully.
Interior
Most everything under the hood is new, OEM. This includes even the bolts and screws. Here is a partial list of some of the items replaced under the hood with new, OEM parts: set of Hitachi carbs from Z Therapy, professionally re-freshed steering wheel and horn pad, brake booster, brake cylinder, master cylinder, oil pump, water pump, complete, new, A/C system (have picture showing it blowing 40 degrees cold air), upgraded radiator, horn, air filter housing, headers and exhaust system, all reservoir bottle, wiper system, battery, air vents, a custom light relay system, and much more. The Manual choke was refreshed with new piano wire and thus a very smooth back and forth action. Floorboards were covered with some soundproofing material. Both door window regulators were replaced with new, OEM ones in 2022. A 3-point seatbelt harness system added to the car. Tires and wheels were upgraded to 15" Konig. Seat recliner mechanisms from a 1972 car have been installed. I do have the original 1971 seats mechanisms though, ones that don’t recline.A dash cover is used. The original dash has a couple cracks over area of gauges. One of the gauges has small area of damage that was repaired and painted. I have and can include a New, full dash cover with sale though.
Exterior
The bumpers are new OEM and mint condition. Here are some other various parts that are newly installed. Grille, valence, all lights on the car with headlights upgraded to a brighter quality (thus the headlight relay), hood latch, side mirror, rear view mirror (no creep), all new interior vinyl and carpet, all interior molding pieces are new (with the exception of headliner piece which is in great condition), door panels, door handles, connectors, hoses, new power antenna, all new seals over entire car including windshield and hatch, glovebox, all emblems are new and OEM, newly refreshed and working clock with quartz upgrade, emergency brake (which is now operational), door and hatch locks, door handles, Stainless trim around windshield and hatch, seats and more. Entire electrical systems was completely redone in late 2022 by a Z-car specialist in Houston Texas. The Underbody was sprayed with a black protectant in 2022. FYI in image 2, the door was not shut when I took the photo. That is why there is a large gap.
