1975 Datsun 280 ZX

Vehicle Details

It’s a 75 280z 2+2, 10k original miles, swapped a big block Chevrolet and t-350 in it Here’s some details:

1975 STREET LEGAL Datsun 280 2+2 with freshly built 500+ci big block. Car has a little over 10k miles before odometer was disconnected. I got it from the the guys son who did the first swap. That was about 30 years ago but it’s only been trailered to the track and ran 1/4 miles passes with small blocks. Anyway the car has maybe another couple hundred miles than the odometer and last year it got a big block Chevy swapped and is now a street legal and tagged Sunday driver. Total miles are probably less than 12k.

Also it’s a 2+2 which research and advice has lead me to believe it’s a bit more rare than the normal coupes and with that mileage makes it a gem (I hope?)

All suspension is factory (believe it or not) and steering assembly is too. but most other things have been modified. Rear end is factory but has aftermarket limited slip internals rated for quite a bit of power (and some good skids ????) fuel cell bolted in rear hatch area, 3/8 fuel supply all the way through. Holly pro series fuel pump and regulator. Custom built radiator, Large vacuum canister. Front brakes were swapped with Toyota 4 piston truck brakes (I’m sure y’all are familiar) and all new drum assemblies and parts in rear. Master cylinder is for 280zx turbo. Larger diameter for bigger calipers. Had a line lock but honestly not necessary and it was finicky so I took it out but still have it.

Block is ‘73 out of a Chevrolet SS ( back when they were de-tuned to lower horsepower, meaning a much less abused block) bored 30 over

496 crank and dome top pistons

Overall displacement around 515ci I believe.

1971 049 large oval port heads with oversized valves

Roller rocker setup with assemblies die ground to precision weight- spins up to 6200 rpm

Street cam- not sure which one anymore, but very streetable.

Holley 750 4 barrel pro line carb

Edelbrock torker intake ( old one just had it milled when I built the engine)

Electric water pump and fan setup

Headman tight tube headers with 3 inch open exhaust, no mufflers and dumps just behind past trans. My buddy is gonna make me some side fire exhaust ends hopefully.

Transmission is a turbo 350 with built internals and a B&M Quicksilver ratchet style shift kit. (So much fun. #neverlift ????) custom driveline with drive line loop. No trans brake yet

Hasn’t found a Dyno since it was built

It but should be in the 450-500hp range from calculation and asking some more experienced big block guys.

This car is insanely fun and pretty damn fast. Also very easily driveable and surprisingly very nimble still.

Given the interior on this one has been stripped but the driver seat is original, door panels and in good shape, the dash is all good, and has original gauges and center console. The doors shut real easy, is has minimal surface rust, and the only spot with real rust is the rocker panels (of course). And its only about 6 inches on each side. Oh and the cool wing windows function perfectly
