No, it was not found in a barn, but was actually acquired from the 2nd owner in Arizona, who had just purchased the car a few months earlier from the original owner, also from Arizona. Due to the amazing 100% original condition of the car, this is certainly a once in a lifetime find! To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Datsun 240Z's debut in America, the Japanese automaker released a limited-edition 280ZX variant for the 1980 model year, w/ only 3,000 examples produced. This one-of-a-kind investment grade example is #2987 of 3000. As w/ any survivor car, overall condition means everything and I am 100% convinced that this is the finest 100% original example of its kind left in existence, period! All of the original paperwork from day one is still present, including the original window sticker, original dealership sales invoice, original EPA fuel economy sheet, original owner's manual, original warranty booklet, original Goodyear tire brochure, original 1980 Datsun 280ZX service manual, original dealership brochure, original dealership inventory tag, original finance company envelope, and original magazine advertisement from 1980 (see photos of paperwork). This perfect time-capsule was purchased on August 7, 1980, @ ABC Datsun in Phoenix, Arizona, by Pamela Starley who owned the car all the way through 2018 when it was sold to the 2nd-owner w/ 37,000 original miles. According to the original window sticker, the factory options include: 2.8 Liter OHC fuel-injected 6-cylinder engine, 5-speed overdrive manual transmission, limited-edition numbered plaque, unique paint/graphics & emblems, black-out moldings & glass surrounds, T-bar roof w/ sunshade windshield, air conditioning w/ auto temp feature, 6-way leather seats w/ lumbar adjust, AM/FM stereo w/ cassette & power boost, power antenna, Goodyear Wingfoot radials, alloy wheels w/ colored inserts, power-assist 4-wheel disc brakes, power steering, power windows, cruise control, full instrumentation including tachometer, & computer sensor system. This 10th Anniversary 280ZX was meticulously cared for & pampered from day one by a woman who obviously loved her car very much. It has never been damaged or abused in any way, and the body panels are laser straight all the way around the car. The original paint is absolutely exceptional throughout and retains a near perfect shine & brilliance. All of the original trim pieces are in excellent condition, as are the original black rubber bumpers. The original glass including the glass in the T-bar roof is exceptional throughout w/ no chips, cracks or fogginess whatsoever. She sits on the original aluminum alloy wheels (in outstanding condition), wrapped w/ Michelin X-Radial P195/70/R14 tires, which are the only items on the car that are not original. The Goodyear Wingfoot tires that originally came on the car have been discontinued and are simply impossible to find. This car has to be seen in person to truly appreciate how incredible & perfectly original it really is.Open the driver's door and you will find a perfect all-original tan leather interior that looks 'showroom fresh' from front to back. It is 100% original from the carpeting to the headliner, and looks exactly like it did back in 1980. There are no rips, tears, cracks or blemishes anywhere to be found, including the original carpeting, which is outstanding. All of the original gauges and all electrical components are in 100% perfect working condition throughout. The air conditioning & heat, cruise control, AM/FM stereo w/ cassette, speaker balance & fader control knob, power antenna, power windows, windshield wipers, etc., all function as new. There is not a single item on this car that is not in perfect working order. The original T-bar pouches are safely secured in the rear hatch area and in mint condition just like everything else. I have never seen another example that comes anywhere close to this car!Pop open the hood and you will find the all-original engine bay & driveline that is exactly as it left the Nissan factory (with exception of the battery). Nothing on the car has ever been modified or tampered with in any way, and the car has been meticulously maintained w/ regular oil changes & dealership maintenance. She fires up instantly, settling into a nice smooth idle, and she runs, drives & performs like a 'brand new' car in every way. The original 5-speed manual transmission shifts just as smooth as silk through all five gears, and I was absolutely blown-away by how this car reacts on the road, and by the overall responsiveness & quickness that it delivers. These were really great cars, especially for 1980.If there was ever a collector-grade example, then this particular car is it. When you consider the incredible all-original condition, the 37,340 actual miles, as well as the extensive original documentation, I just don't think there is another example out there that compares in any way.
