Description:

1971 Datsun Z-Series

This is a series 1 Datsun 240z with some great custom features. It's still a project but is almost done and gives the buyer the leeway to make their own decisions on which way to go. The series 1 240Z's were made through 1971 and feature the hatch vents and different badges from the later models. This vehicle has a vin number in the 13000's.
The Good:Engine: The V8 conversion on these vehicles goes back to pretty much the day they came out and it's been perfected over the years. This conversion has the engine sitting low and as close to the firewall as it can get. For the engine itself, it's a freshly refurbished beefed up SBC 350 engine. It has a 4 bolt main with a lunati voodoo cam and comp rollers. Over 300hp to push this 2000 pound car.
Transmission: The bulletproof 700R4 found in GM vehicles provides an automatic engine with overdrive for comfortable driving. This was going to be my daily driver and I wanted something that could handle all that power and would give a nice smooth zone for that big engine to flow through. But when needed, it has a 3500 stall torque converter. This allows the car to launch with just a little prodding "at the starting line"
Rust: These cars are infamous for having rust issues and in the 10 years I've been looking at and working on them, I haven't found one yet that doesn't have some rust. This one is no exception but the rust spots are pretty few and far between. On both the Drivers and passenger sides where the firewall meets the floor is the worst. It's rusted through with about a 1.5 inch gap on each side. The passenger side may have a little along the rails as well. These were patched when I got the vehicle and I only recently discovered them when I removed the carpet. Beyond that, there is a small 4 inch round hole in the firewall where the AC was. There is also a bit of something under the paint where the fuel door was. I'm not sure if it's rust. It doesn't feel soft or anything but I try to be as transparent as possible. And that's it. The Hatch and battery areas most commonly known for rust issues are perfect.
Extra Parts: The hood on the vehicle is from a 280z as I loved the vents. But I have the 240z hood though it was modified for hood pins. In addition, I have an almost complete vintage air system. I have an upgrade r200 rear diff along with a special mount. The seats are garbage but I have a pair of 350z ready to be modified and dropped in. I have rear window louvers if you're interested. Then a bunch of little odds and ends.
Wheels and Tires: The wheels are tires are pretty much new with less than 500 miles on them.
Title: I have a clean title with matching vin numbers on the door panel, dash plate and engine bay.
The Bad:Interior: There is currently no interior in the car. I pulled all of the interior. I have most of the pieces to put it back together. I have the plastics from another vehicle, a roll of carpet, the carpet holders, the door seals, a pair of door cards from a 280z(perfect condition but the door locks are in the wrong place), door handles, window cranks, etc. Then the 350z seats I mentioned above. You can put this stuff in or go with something custom.
Paint and Fiberglass: There is a fiberglass body kit on the car that the previous owner tried to seal in. Where it meets the car, the paint is chipping. The kit will need to be removed to fix it. The side panel on the passenger side is missing and the rear fiberglass bumper is damaged in the corner. The paint looks decent from far away but needs some attention once you get up close.
Wiring: The interior wiring is from another vehicle as the one in this car was in bad shape. There is an upgrade fuse box as well. There are still a couple things to hook up. I wanted to run relays for the headlights, wipers and turn signals but didn't get a chance so those do not work. The wiper motor is uninstalled as I was going to upgrade it.
Customizations:Shaved: The side turn signals on this model were large and bulky. They have been shaved and replaced with led turn signals in the grill. Also shaved are the door locks and fuel door giving a smooth look and feel.
Tire Wells: The rear tire wells have been tubbed giving the option to run a wider tire but the standard 16" tires on it look great as well.
Fuel Cell: The fuel tank has been replaced by a 15 gallon aluminum fuel cell. It is filled by opening the hatch but the parts are in place to run a filler behind the license plate. I have a gas tank that I can include if you'd like the option to go back.
